Theory: Tyler Robinson — Official Suspect
Tyler Robinson is the individual charged by the State of Utah with the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The Official Account
According to charging documents and official law enforcement statements, Tyler Alexander Robinson, a student, carried a Mauser Model 98 rifle to the UVU campus on September 10, 2025 and fired the fatal shot from an elevated rooftop position during Kirk's outdoor speaking event. Law enforcement identified Robinson as the lone actor and he was subsequently charged with aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and felony discharge of a firearm.
The affidavit chain reports that Robinson confessed to his father after the shooting. Independent investigators dispute the early press framing that he turned himself in voluntarily; how he came to be at the sheriff's office is contested and is treated below as an open question rather than a settled fact.

What the Evidence Does Not Yet Resolve
The trial of Tyler Robinson — whenever it occurs — will be the first opportunity for independent ballistics, acoustic, and forensic evidence to be tested in a formal adversarial proceeding. Until then, the following remain open:
- Whether the wound profile is consistent with the attributed rifle and distance
- Whether Robinson had the physical access, time, and capability to occupy the rooftop and fire the shot
- Whether the acoustic record is consistent with a rooftop origin
- Whether Robinson acted alone or was assisted, directed, or used by others
On that last question, former NCTC director Joe Kent has said on the record that his center's foreign-nexus review was ordered to stop precisely because a suspect was in custody — before accomplice and foreign-tie leads were run to ground.
