UVU: "He Wants Us To Get A Message To Charlie Kirk"
Every other page in this section deals with private messages described by private parties. This one is different: it is a government record, released under Utah's open-records law, and its existence is not in dispute. What it says is almost entirely blacked out.
The document
Among 50 documents and 112 pages released by Utah Valley University in response to a Daily Caller News Foundation GRAMA request is an email sent at 2:23 PM on September 9, 2025 — under 24 hours before the assassination — through UVU Police Chief Jeff Long's communication chain.
Subject line: FYI.
The body reads:
"He wants us to get a message to Charlie Kirk. His phone number is [REDACTED]."
The name of the person seeking to reach Kirk is redacted. The phone number is redacted. Whether the message was ever delivered is not documented anywhere in the 112 pages.
The other September 9 record
The same release contains a second item from that day. At 10:35 PM, two unidentified men reportedly walked into a UVU office and asked to speak with police about "a plan." Staff considered it serious enough to notify the university cabinet and the president's office. Forty-four minutes later, someone in the chat characterized the two as "GOP reps who played like they knew more than they did." Nobody in the chat asked what the plan was. What the two men told police is not documented. Their names are redacted.
Two separate attempts to communicate something about this event, on the same day, both terminating in redactions.
Why the redactions are the story
The names are withheld under Utah exemptions for "security of public property" and "privacy." Those exemptions are ordinary and lawful. The question raised by investigators is whether they still apply: the suspect has been in custody for months, the event is long over, and there is no ongoing security threat to the campus. UVU has acknowledged that additional documents exist and has declined to release them.

What this does and does not show
It does not show a threat. An email asking that a message be passed to a speaker is a routine administrative request; public figures generate many of them, and the most likely explanation for any single one is mundane. It does not identify anyone, and no person named or unnamed in these records is accused here of anything.
What it does show is that two documented communication attempts concerning Charlie Kirk occurred at UVU in the final 24 hours, and the public record cannot say what either was about. In a case where the central dispute is whether warnings existed, unreadable records about attempted warnings are their own kind of evidence — of a disclosure problem, if nothing else. This is one of the concrete targets of the statutes proposed in New Laws (Fix).
Open questions
- Who sent the 2:23 PM email, and who was the "he" wanting to reach Kirk?
- Was the message delivered, and if so by whom?
- Who were the two men who came in at 10:35 PM, and what was "a plan"?
- What is in the additional documents UVU has acknowledged but not released?
Interesting In This Area
- Every other page here rests on private description; this one is a government record.
- Two men reportedly asked police about a plan that night, hours after the kill-me texts.
- Whether the message reached Charlie appears nowhere in the release, unlike the Flood warning.
- UVU says more documents exist and has declined to release them — see the section index.
Interesting In Other Areas
- Four proposed laws are aimed at exactly this kind of lawful, permanent redaction.
- Charlie's own chronology puts both contacts inside his final twenty-four hours.
