Chain 2: Why a Shaped Charge in the Microphone

The conclusion this chain reaches
An explosive device at or in the lapel microphone assembly — a small shaped or directional charge — is the mechanism most consistent with the video, the audio, the physical debris, and the way the scene was treated afterwards.
This is the majority conclusion among the citizen investigators working this case. It is not the state's finding, and it has never been tested by a court. Read it as the best current reconstruction, not as a settled fact.
Link 1 — The shirt moves before the blood
Frame analysis of the moment argues the shirt is pulled or displaced outward at the chest before any bleeding is visible — a sequence more consistent with an outward pressure event at the garment than with a projectile arriving from outside. Strength: moderate. Compressed video at 30 frames per second is a blunt instrument for ordering events milliseconds apart, and cloth moves for many reasons.
Link 2 — The audio has a detonation signature, not a rifle signature
Analysis of the Canon XA55 camera audio is argued to show a signature consistent with a near-field detonation rather than a distant supersonic crack plus muzzle report. See Canon audio detonation, the acoustic two-event split, and loud sound from the speakers.
Strength: contested and important. This link is the one most capable of being settled definitively by a named forensic acoustician working from the raw multitrack — which is exactly why the raw multitrack matters.
Link 3 — There is a burnt object, and it left in the vehicle
Investigators have documented a burnt object photographed in the SUV that carried Charlie Kirk, argued to be the remains of a RØDE Wireless PRO transmitter. See burnt object, RØDE transmitter, the burnt object in the SUV, and burnt object RØDE.
Strength: this is the single most load-bearing physical link in the chain. A body microphone does not burn because a rifle bullet passed nearby. If the identification of that object holds, the mechanism argument largely follows from it.
Link 4 — The vehicle holding that object was destroyed
The SUV was subsequently destroyed — SUV destroyed and the FBI did not take the car into custody. Photographs of the vehicle also show blurred windows.
Strength: strong as a spoliation argument, zero as proof of mechanism. It does not tell you what the object was. It tells you the object can no longer be examined.
Link 5 — The microphone was worn under the shirt, which is not how it is normally done

Strength: weak alone, relevant in sequence. Under-shirt placement is common enough in live production. It matters only because it puts the device against the body.
Link 6 — The hardware has a defence-contract lineage
Investigators have documented a Department of Defense contract touching the microphone hardware line — DoD contract and the RØDE wireless mic — and have connected procurement threads to Accurate Energetic Systems, an explosives manufacturer: AES, the AES factory explosion, and the Tennessee explosion.
Strength: the weakest link in the chain, and it should be treated that way. A contract is not an assassination. Explosives plants explode; that industry has a grim baseline rate. This link is suggestive context, and if it were removed the chain would still stand on links 1 through 4.
Link 7 — The residue that would prove it was systematically removed
If a charge detonated at chest height, the courtyard soil, the clothing, and the surrounding surfaces carried the residue. What happened to each:
- The soil was excavated and hauled, then replaced with cement — dirt hauled immediately, dirt replaced with cement.
- The security team's clothing was seized — FBI seized security team clothing.
- Bomb dogs were reportedly kept away — bomb dogs kept away.
- Charlie Kirk's shirt was reportedly treated with a flame retardant, and its whereabouts have been an open question ever since.
- A ceiling in a nearby building was reportedly painted — ceiling painted.
Strength: strong as a pattern, and this is where the chain gets its force. Each item alone is explicable. Together they describe the systematic elimination of exactly one category of forensic evidence.
Link 8 — Trained people who were there said it looked like an explosion
Former Navy SEAL Rob O'Neill has publicly described what he saw as looking like an explosion — O'Neill: looked like an explosion and Rob O'Neill's testimony. A 911 call reportedly captures the words "get that off of him" — get that off of him. Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has said publicly she is "very much compelled by the lapel-mic stories."
Strength: moderate. Trained observers are still eyewitnesses, and eyewitnesses are still fallible. But people with explosive-ordnance experience saying explosion is a different quality of testimony than a bystander saying it.
What citizen investigators said on X, from week two through month eleven
The shaped-charge reconstruction is not a late invention. It is what a large share of the people watching the video said almost immediately, and they were still saying it in August 2026.
- September 26, 2025. @aldamu_jo, 3,100 likes: "The modified lapel mic that struck Charlie Kirk's neck being discreetly handed off and removed from the crime scene."
- September 30, 2025. @PaulRPickett1: "his shirt flies up, it was a lapel exploding mic that ended his life, not a 30.6 bullet, if it was a 30.6 there would have been blood splatter everywhere." @CDLagarenne in the same 24 hours: exploding-mic theory, Meta-glasses security detail, SD card pulled, "The Tyler Robinson narrative doesn't add up."
- November 2, 2025. @DiligentDenizen identifies Terryl Farnsworth pulling the camera behind Kirk, and its SD card, two minutes after — the residue-and-record half of Link 7, on video.
- August 3, 2026. Marjorie Taylor Greene, on camera: "very much compelled by the lapel-mic stories," and the SD-card collection plus the paving are "very questionable."
- August 2026. The theory is now famous enough to be the thing its opponents mock, which is how you know it did not go away — and famous enough that Max Blumenthal is still arguing it on camera. A Marine-sniper breakdown of the hand-and-arm signals "that led to the Exploding Microphone" was still circulating on August 30.
Strength: this is a record of a reconstruction, not a ninth physical link. The physical links are 1–8. The X record is why this chain, rather than a drone or a second shooter, is the majority reconstruction among the people still working the tape.
Where the chain lands
Read the links in order and the reasoning is: something happened at the body, at the microphone, before the bleeding, with an acoustic signature investigators read as near-field; the device is physically accounted for as a burnt object; that object left in a vehicle that was then destroyed; and every category of residue evidence that could have confirmed or refuted it was removed within days.
That is not a proof. It is the reconstruction that requires the fewest coincidences. The competing reconstruction — a single .30-06 from a roof — requires the eight simultaneous benign explanations set out in Chain 1, plus a burnt transmitter nobody can now examine.
The strongest objections to this whole chain
First, no explosive residue has ever been affirmatively detected and published. The chain explains that absence by destruction, but an explanation for missing evidence is not the evidence. Second, the burnt-object identification rests on photographs, not on the object. Third, the AES and DoD-contract link is association, not connection, and it is the part of this chain most likely to be wrong. Fourth, a shaped charge at the chest that leaves a neck wound track needs a mechanism of its own — that is a real physics question the chain has not closed. Fifth, the people who would have had to place the device are living private individuals against whom there is no evidence whatsoever, and this site names none of them.
Anyone who cannot state those five objections should not be arguing this chain in public.
What would settle it
- Independent re-examination of the recovered device fragments — independent device re-examination.
- Explosive residue testing on everything still in existence — explosive residue testing.
- Subpoena the microphone hardware and its chain of custody — microphone hardware subpoena.
- Produce the EOD sweep record for the venue — bomb dogs and EOD sweep.
- Publish the full autopsy and put the examiner on the stand.
