The problem that comes before identification
Before asking whether the figure is Robinson, note when the imagery was released: 7:55 PM on September 11. If the defense filing quoting Bates 003996-R2 is dated September 11, Robinson had already been read his rights and invoked counsel ninety minutes earlier. A BOLO for a man already in an interview room is not an identification problem; it is a conduct problem. Investigators have separately documented enhanced suspect photos released after he was in custody and the rooftop video being trimmed.
The identification objections
Clothing. The figure's clothing has been compared frame by frame against what Robinson is documented wearing that day, and analysts report conflicts — black clothing versus jeans, Robinson clothing changes, and Tyler clothing conflicts. Separately, multiple witnesses described a man in all black, which is not what the state's suspect is documented in — see the all-black construction worker witness.
Movement. Analysts including Based Sam Parker argue the roof sequence shows a lateral military crawl, a drop from height taken without hesitation, and a controlled sprint — a movement vocabulary they associate with training rather than with a first-time shooter fleeing in panic. No muzzle flash, no recoil. Reviewers of the available footage report they cannot identify a muzzle flash or a recoil event at the moment of the shot from the claimed position — no muzzle flash or recoil, and the harder claim, no shot from the roof at all.
The backpack. A Mauser 98 is a full-length military bolt-action, roughly 44 inches. The concealment argument is worked through at backpack rifle impossibility and stairs guy and backpack. The counterarguments, stated fairly
Low-resolution surveillance video is a terrible medium for identification, and that cuts both ways — it undermines the FBI's confident release and it equally undermines confident amateur exclusions. Clothing appears to change colour under different lighting and compression. People who have never trained move athletically under adrenaline all the time. Muzzle flash is frequently invisible in daylight, especially in a long barrel and off-axis to the camera, and recoil on a shouldered rifle is a small motion at that distance.

What would settle it
- Release the full, untrimmed UVU and campus camera footage at native resolution rather than selected clips — see UVU HD footage withheld.
- Produce the FBI's own image-enhancement work product, including what was enhanced, when, and by whom.
- Publish the timestamped release log for the 7:55 PM BOLO against the custody record.
- Call the eyewitnesses who reported seeing figures on roofs and put their accounts on the record under oath.
