Squeezing the window from the back
The custody argument compresses the end of the manhunt. A defense filing quoting Bates video 003996-R2 logs a Miranda warning at 6:25 PM on what investigators argue was September 11, with Robinson immediately invoking counsel. If that date holds, the manhunt ended at least three and a half hours earlier than published, and the FBI's 7:55 PM BOLO went out for a man already in a sheriff's interview room. Squeezing the window from the middle
The other pressure comes from Panguitch, Utah — a town 209 road miles south of Orem. Staff at Cowboy's Smokehouse say they served Tyler Robinson dinner between roughly 8:55 and 9:47 PM on September 10, 2025, the evening of the shooting.
What makes this different from every other dispute on this site is that it is not a contest over description. Chest or neck, one shot or two, wrong guy or right guy — those are arguments about wording, and wording bends under retelling. Geography does not. If Robinson was eating in Panguitch that evening, he was not in the Orem area, and the real-time manhunt communications that anchor the public story become impossible for him to have sent. A receipt and a card transaction would settle it in an afternoon.
By the accounts given on camera, nobody with subpoena power has publicly moved to settle it. Staff have separately said they were told not to talk. The driving problem
Investigators have also mapped the driving the official timeline requires across September 10 to 12 — see the twenty-five-hour driving timeline and the impossible timeline pages. The round trip between Utah County and Washington County alone is over seven hours. Layering a Panguitch dinner, a return, an evening surrender, and an SBI officer's own 3.5-hour drive into the same window is where the arithmetic starts to fail.
The counterarguments, stated fairly
Eyewitness identification by restaurant staff, made after a face has saturated every screen in the country, is among the least reliable forms of evidence that exists. Cross-racial and cross-context misidentification is routine; so is honest, confident, sincere error. That is not a slight against the staff — it is the reason lineups have rules. The Panguitch account needs the transaction record, not more interviews, and until that record is produced it remains a claim.
The 33-hour figure itself is also just journalism doing arithmetic on official statements. It was never an independent finding, and nobody has claimed it was.
What would settle it
- Subpoena the Cowboy's Smokehouse card-transaction and POS records for the evening of September 10, 2025.
- Produce the cell-site and device-location record for Robinson's phone across September 10–11 — see cell tower and phone data timeline.
- Date the Bates 003996 video and publish the custody log against it.
- Release automated licence-plate-reader hits along the I-15 and US-89 corridors for the vehicle in question.
