29. Identity of the campus "scout" walker
Nothing on this page claims that any investigator, agency, or commentator misrepresented evidence or acted improperly. Tyler Robinson is claimed to be the shooter; he is charged, not convicted, has not entered a guilty plea, and is presumed innocent. The question here is what the public footage can and cannot show.
The issue in plain words
Before the shooting, campus cameras recorded a man walking around UVU. The state calls this the scouting trip. Per Agent David Hull's hearing testimony, this man wore a maroon or red T-shirt, gray or olive shorts, and Converse shoes. He visited the courtyard, bought food, went into the wooded area across Campus Drive, and went to the railing that gives access to the Losee Center roof, all before walking off campus just before 11:00 AM.
If that walker is Tyler Robinson, it shows planning, and it links him to the exact roof and the exact woods. If it is not him, or cannot be shown to be him, the case loses its best morning evidence.
How was the walker identified? Hull told the court he recognized the person from video. Official-side commentators went further and compared the walker's gait, build, and clothing with a 2022 police body-camera clip of Robinson. The public campus cameras are catalogued at UVU campus surveillance.

The fed slop side, in full
The official side says identification does not need a perfect face. Investigators combine many clues: the car with its distinctive wheels, the route, the shoes, the build, and how the man moves. The 2022 bodycam gives a clean reference for how Robinson walks and carries himself, and the campus walker matches it. The walker then goes to the very railing and the very woods that feature in the shooting.
Hull's Day 2 testimony is the state's best version. The driver exits the garage around 8:30 AM in a red T-shirt, shorts, and shoes. Hull: he believes that is Tyler Robinson. The same clothing, plus a blue backpack, returns just after 10:00 AM from the neighborhood to the northeast. Hull describes "a maroon colored t-shirt, gray or olive colored shorts, and then Converse shoes." The man eats at Chick-fil-A, dumps the backpack in the woods, checks the roof railing, and leaves before 11:00 AM.
On this view, demanding a studio-quality face is a way of refusing any evidence at all. Commentators who attended the July 2026 hearing said they saw enhanced HD, some of it in 4K, with a crystal-clear face, plate, clothes, and rooftop actions. Fox and other official-side outlets treated "maroon shirt lookalikes" as a conspiracy theory the compilation had already killed. The maroon shirt at surrender, they say, is the same maroon shirt on campus. Identity is closed. See Fed claim: the rooftop figure is Robinson.
What citizen investigators say
Investigators start with the footage the public has seen. It is distant, compressed campus video. Hull himself told the court that in the parking-garage footage, "some individuals" had their faces blurred. They say a lookalike in a common outfit, a maroon T-shirt and shorts, at that resolution, is not the kind of identification that should carry a death-penalty case. The mismatch table is Stairs Guy identity gap and Stairs Guy vs Tyler Robinson.
They also point to the order of the arguments. After the July 2026 hearing, some commentators who attended said they had seen enhanced video, some of it in 4K, with a clear face. Other same-day attendees disputed that, saying most clips were already public and none showed a face-clear shot. No 4K face footage has been released. Investigators note that the public argument then shifted to gait and build, which they see as a sign the face claim could not be backed up. Kash Patel, as FBI Director, has been quoted acknowledging that stairwell images were "enhanced." That fight lives on Enhanced suspect photos.
Gait cuts both ways. Hull testified the afternoon figure walked with a noticeable limp on the way in, and ran without one on the roof. Investigators ask which gait the 2022 bodycam is supposed to match. A morning scout in shorts, an afternoon figure in a dark long sleeve and jeans with a limp, and a roof runner with no limp, is three movement profiles. Official-side commentators collapsed them into one body. Citizen investigators treat that collapse as the splice. The chain is Chain: the rooftop figure is not identified as Robinson.
Project Constitution's reply to a hearing attendee who claimed crystal-clear 4K was blunt: the video was blurry, distant, and half the time the head was down or turned away. Candace Owens and other investigators have also noted that the scout kit — T-shirt, shorts, Converse — is the wrong kit for the 911 tactical description. That clothing fight is the next issue. None of this states that a second living person committed a crime. It states that the public footage does not close identity.
When this fight ran
- 10–16 September 2025. First stills of a campus walker in a maroon shirt. Official-side accounts named Robinson immediately.
- July 7–11, 2026. Preliminary hearing. Hull IDs the walker from video. Official-side commentators in the room claimed 4K. Other attendees said no. Fox ran a "maroon shirts" debunk.
- After the 4K claim stalled. Gait and the 2022 bodycam became the public substitute for a face. That is the same window as Fed Slop Issue 17 and Fed Slop Issue 59.
Why it matters for Tyler Robinson
The scout walk is how the state ties Robinson to the roof and the woods before anything happened. If the walker is identified only by outfit and resemblance, a second person in similar clothes fits the same footage. Investigators say that is exactly the gap a frame would need. What would settle it
- Release of the native, full-resolution campus footage behind State's Exhibit 12, with metadata.
- Any enhanced or 4K frames the state relies on, shown in open court or to independent experts.
- A qualified forensic gait comparison, disclosed with its method and error rate, covering morning scout, afternoon limp, roof run, and the 2022 bodycam.
- Purchase records from the Chick-fil-A visit, which would name the card used.
- Unblurred garage frames, or a statement of why faces in that clip were blurred.
