2. The exact time and date Tyler Robinson was taken into custody

Attributed claims only

Tyler Robinson is charged, not convicted, has not entered a guilty plea, and is presumed innocent. Every official and officer named here is a living person charged with nothing. This site makes no claim that any officer, agent, sheriff, or prosecutor fabricated a record, lied, or acted improperly. The inferences below are arguments made by named investigators from court filings and public records.

The issue in plain words​

After Charlie Kirk was killed on September 10, 2025, the public was told a clear story. The next evening, September 11, the FBI released photos of a person of interest at about 7:55 PM. Around 7:57 to 8:00 PM, a Discord message from an account tied to Tyler Robinson said "It was me at UVU yesterday." The Washington County sheriff says he got his first call naming Robinson at 8:02 PM. Robinson then arrived with his parents around 9 PM, and the arrest was logged at 10:00 PM. Kash Patel, as FBI Director, later sold that window as a 33-hour manhunt.

That order of events matters. A man can only type a Discord confession if he is still free and still holds his phone. So the question of this issue is simple: when did Tyler Robinson actually go into custody?

A defense filing in case 251403576 quotes a Bates-stamped video, 003996-R2, in which an officer reads Robinson his rights at a logged 6:25 PM and Robinson asks for a lawyer at 6:26 PM, naming Utah attorney Doug Terry. If that was September 11, the whole public sequence runs backwards.

The fed slop side, in full​

The official-narrative side says custody came on the evening of September 11 after 7:50 PM, usually put in the roughly 9:00 PM Washington County window, or loosely on September 12. That matches the Discord post and the family surrender story. Governor Spencer Cox announced the arrest the next morning. Kash Patel confirmed it at a mid-morning press conference. Outlets repeated that Robinson was arrested two days after the shooting, and that the Discord message went out "roughly two hours before" he walked in.

The strongest point on this side is real: the calendar date is not printed on the excerpt of Bates 003996-R2 as circulated. A Washington County deputy attorney told The American Prospect in April 2026 that the "evening of Robinson's arrest" was September 12, because Robinson was never actually arrested in Washington County but nearly four hours north in Provo, by which point it was well past midnight. That reading would put the Miranda warning many hours after the Discord message.

Commentators on this side also offer a technical reading: that the "06:25 PM" is a body-camera transcription clock misread, which would move the warning to after midnight. Investigative holds are lawful. Booking-sheet fields are often filled in later. Small agencies lose video. On this view, nothing is out of place. The investigative-hold counterpoint is the official side's best answer, and it is on this site so a reader can take it at full strength.

What citizen investigators say​

Citizen investigators say custody came on September 11 itself, at 6:25 PM or earlier. They point to several records that line up on that evening. The discovery index lists exhibit Bates 3996-R1 as "Video at WCSO on 9/11/2025." On the tape, Robinson says his lawyer's office is "closed for the night." September 11 was a Thursday. Attorney and commentator Baron Coleman argues that on a Friday a person would say closed "for the weekend." Coleman has said the state's "entire narrative depends on him turning himself in after nine o'clock p.m." His write-up is on Baron Coleman: Early Turn-In.

The Utah County booking sheet lists the arrest at 10:00 PM September 11 and intake at 1:58 AM September 12, with a State Bureau of Investigation agent as arresting officer. Investigators argue that an agent starting from northern Utah had to leave around 6:30 PM to be in Washington County by 10 PM, which is before the sheriff's 8:02 PM first call. Washington County also told a public-records hearing it found no bodycam of the intake.

The family account, as relayed by citizen journalists, is that his parents went with him in the afternoon and that his phone was taken on arrival. A second clock sits next to the 8:57–9:00 PM window: a HADES-program aircraft tracked over St. George on the night of the 11th, near the sheriff's station, at Discord-post time. Move custody earlier, investigators say, and the Discord dump looks timed to the aircraft.

When this fight ran​

  • September 11–16, 2025. The first framing. Official-side accounts and wire copy locked in a ~9:00 PM surrender, a Discord confession two hours earlier, and a 33-hour manhunt. Kash Patel's Senate remarks on September 16 treated the Discord chat as a live investigative target.
  • March 30 – April 15, 2026. A defense motion put Bates 003996-R2 in public. The American Prospect ran the ninety-minute hole. Official-side commentators answered that the Miranda date was the 12th, or that a hold made the warning lawful even if it was early.
  • July 2026 preliminary hearing. An agent testified Robinson arrived at Washington County around 9:00 PM and that the Discord message was 7:57 PM on the 11th. The hearing did not produce the native video metadata.
  • September 1–2, 2026. Bind-over and a not-guilty plea on all counts. Candace Owens told readers to go find every influencer who had said he turned himself in and admitted guilt.

Why it matters for Tyler Robinson​

If Robinson was Mirandized and without his phone at 6:25 PM, he did not type "It was me at UVU yesterday" at about 7:57 PM. Take away that message and the public confession rests on third-party screens and a roommate's narration. It also means the 7:55 PM wanted-person release went out for a man already in an interview room. A custody clock that has to be moved to fit the confession is one of the clearest signs, investigators say, that the story was built around a conclusion.

The fed claim that he confessed on Discord and the fed claim that he turned himself in are two halves of the same package. The chain that he could not have sent it and the chain that he did not turn himself in when they said are the investigator answer. Proof Not Tyler treats this clock as one of the reasons the charging package does not prove a shot. Citizen investigators conclude Kirk was killed by an explosive at the microphone. A Discord post that could not have been typed from the interview room is how a lone-gunman story was sold to the public in the first 48 hours.

What would settle it​

  • The date metadata on the Bates 003996-R1 and R2 video files.
  • The property log showing when and by whom Robinson's phone was taken.
  • The arresting agent's dispatch, departure time, and route for September 11.
  • Discord's server-side record for the message: timestamp, IP, and device.
  • The written reports Utah law requires when a deputy's body camera was not recording.
  • A sworn statement from the Washington County sheriff of the first moment Robinson was not free to leave.
