28. The official movement story: Chick-fil-A, clothes change, garage, roof, woods

Attributed claims only

Nothing on this page claims that any investigator, officer, or agency fabricated or altered video, or acted improperly. Tyler Robinson is claimed to be the shooter; he is charged, not convicted, has not entered a guilty plea, and is presumed innocent. The TPUSA representatives mentioned in the testimony are not accused of anything, and this site makes no claim that they knew of or had any role in the killing.

The issue in plain words​

At the preliminary hearing in July 2026, Utah investigator Agent David Hull walked the court through a video compilation, State's Exhibit 12, that the state says follows Tyler Robinson across the UVU campus on September 10, 2025. That compilation is the backbone of the identity case. The event itself is the UVU public speaking event.

Per Hull's Day 2 testimony, a man in a maroon or red T-shirt, gray or olive shorts and Converse shoes parks in a campus garage around 8:30 AM, visits the courtyard and talks with TPUSA representatives, and is back at the car about 9:25 AM. He returns on foot just after 10:00 AM with a blue backpack, buys food at the Chick-fil-A in the Sorenson Center, crosses Campus Drive into a wooded area, and comes back without the backpack. He goes to the railing that gives access to the Losee Center roof, comes back down, and walks off campus just before 11:00 AM.

Then a figure returns "in different clothing." At about 11:53 AM to 12:15 PM a person climbs the exterior stairs, rolls over the railing, runs to the southwest corner, and lies prone until the 12:23:28 shot. Afterwards the person runs to the northeast corner, drops to the grass, and crosses Campus Drive into the woods at 12:24:42. The state's version of the rooftop figure is Fed claim: the rooftop figure is Robinson.

The fed slop side, in full​

The official side says this is what good investigative work looks like. Many cameras, one route, one car with distinctive wheels, one set of shoes. The man arrives, scouts, leaves, changes, returns, climbs, waits, and runs. Every stage is on video, the timestamps line up with the shot, and the path ends in the woods where the rifle was later recovered.

CBS News put the package in one sentence on July 7, 2026: the man charged "strolled Utah Valley University in shorts and a T-shirt, bought a meal at Chick-fil-A and made contact with Kirk's staff, before returning in different clothes to shoot the conservative activist from a rooftop." CNN's takeaways the same week counted four campus appearances: twice before the shot, at the shot, and after midnight. Governor Spencer Cox had already described a maroon T-shirt, light shorts, and a later change into dark clothing. Hull told the court the returning figure wore a dark long-sleeved shirt and jeans, same Converse. Official-side commentators who attended the hearing said the compilation was devastating, that the room gasped, and that identity was closed.

Nobody, on this view, needs a face in every frame when the route, the car, and the clothing sequence all point the same way. The court rifle, the DNA, and the roommate texts do the rest. See Theory: Tyler Robinson — official suspect.

What citizen investigators say​

Investigators say the track is a chain of separate clips, each identified by resemblance, and that the weakest link sits exactly where it matters. The change of clothes itself is not on camera. When the prosecutor asked Hull why he believed the returning figure in different clothes was Robinson, Hull answered: "The shoes are the same and the images that we have from my viewing and seeing Mr. Robinson on the video, it's the same person." Hull also told the court the returning figure walked "with a gait or a limp," noticeable on the approach to the Losee building around 11:53 AM. Later the prosecutor asked about the roof run. Hull said that after the figure went over the railing, "there is no longer a visible limp or gait." Investigators ask how one body limps on the walk in and runs cleanly on the roof. Some see a second person picked up after the change. The official side can answer that a limp can be faked or dropped under stress, but no witness has said so on the record. Public accounts of the clothing do not agree either. Governor Cox described a change on the roof and a change back. Hull described a change before the return. A construction-crew witness and the rooftop video witness describe black clothing and a mask. None of the changes is shown on video. What campus cameras exist, and what has been released, is UVU campus surveillance. Investigators' chain on the roof figure is Chain: the rooftop figure is not identified as Robinson.

Candace Owens has walked the full day as one continuous clock: a 4 AM start in St. George, a maroon shirt, Chick-fil-A, a clothes change, a Wordle score at 11:28 AM, the shot, a jump, a change back, Dairy Queen, a three-hour drive to Panguitch, a return into a manhunt, the Goforth stop, and a maroon shirt again at arrest. She calls that sequence absurd on its face. The driving-day page is The 25-hour driving day. Citizen investigators conclude the fatal event was an explosive at the microphone, which would make the roof track a distraction even if every clip were the same body. That is Mic and Gun and bullet. Electrocution claims are uncorroborated and are not their finding.

When this fight ran​

  • 12–16 September 2025. Governor Cox's press package: maroon shirt, clothes change, Dodge Challenger, campus track. Official-side accounts treated identity as closed from day one.
  • 7–11 July 2026. Day 2 of the preliminary hearing. Exhibit 12 is played. CBS, CNN, Court TV, KUER, Deseret News, and Fox ran the Chick-fil-A-to-roof compilation as the identity case. Official-side commentators said conspiracies were dismantled. Same-day attendees disputed that the public saw a face-clear 4K shot.
  • August 2026. Owens and other investigators restated the 25-hour day against the hearing compilation. The splice at the clothes change stayed the live objection.

Why it matters for Tyler Robinson​

If the track is one continuously identified person, it is strong evidence. If it is a morning man, an unfilmed change, and an afternoon figure matched by shoes and resemblance, then the roof figure is tied to Robinson by inference, not by sight. That is the gap where investigators say a frame could be built. He has entered no guilty plea. Probable cause at a bind-over is the lowest bar. The Proof Not Tyler hub starts from that gap.

What would settle it​

  • The full native campus footage, unedited, with metadata, rather than a prosecution compilation.
  • Any footage of the clothing change, or proof that none exists for that window.
  • A qualified gait comparison shared with the defense, covering both the limp and the roof run.
  • The discarded clothing and backpack, with forensic results and where each was found.
  • Chick-fil-A purchase records for that morning, which would name the card used.
