19. Panguitch geography versus the Orem phone story

Attributed claims only

The Panguitch identification is claimed by restaurant staff and contested; it has not been authenticated in court, and the restaurant later said it has no evidence either way. Nothing on this page says any officer, investigator, or other living person invented evidence, lied, or had foreknowledge of the killing. Tyler Robinson is charged, not convicted, has not entered a guilty plea, and is presumed innocent. Lance Twiggs has been charged with nothing.

The issue in plain words​

Charlie Kirk was shot at 12:23 PM on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University in Orem. That evening, staff at Cowboy's Smokehouse in Panguitch, a small town about 209 road miles south, say a quiet young man matching the FBI photos ate a steak dinner alone at the counter. A photographed ticket, Check #211, shows an order around 8:55 PM paid at 9:47 PM on a Visa debit card (the receipt).

The State's account of that same night needs Tyler Robinson back in the Orem area: texts exchanged with his roommate, and a car stopped by an officer near campus at about 12:30 AM. This issue asks whether both stories can fit on one map. The dinner itself is Issue 1. This page is the geography: phone, car, and miles.

The fed slop side, in full​

Stated fairly: a staff identification of a stranger, made from FBI photos the next day, is a well-known source of error. A card can be carried by someone other than its owner. Against that, the State has physical and digital anchors. Agent Brian Davis testified that a Cellebrite extraction of the roommate's phone shows texts with Robinson beginning at 11 PM on September 10 (Twiggs' phone). And Agent David Hull testified that a Spanish Fork officer, Goforth, spoke with the driver of a car registered to Robinson at Campus Drive and 800 South at about 12:30 AM on September 11.

Official-side commentators add the rest of the north-valley pins: K-9 texts around 9:00 PM, a 12:38 AM sighting, a 1:33 AM Maps route. They say grandparents, a cabin, and the color of a house do not move those pins. After the owner of Cowboy's Smokehouse sat for a later interview and said he had no reason to believe Robinson was there, the same accounts called the alibi "debunked" and "bullshit." On this view, Panguitch is a mistaken sighting that cannot break the Orem phone story, and harassing a mom-and-pop over it is the scandal.

They also say phone-surveillance claims and a 33-hour manhunt already place him. If a card hit Panguitch, someone else held it.

The Cellebrite extraction is the load-bearing digital exhibit. Official-side commentators treat roommate texts that begin at 11:00 PM — "stuck in orem," K-9s in the woods, a plan to retrieve a rifle — as a live location for the man, not only the phone. Hull's Goforth contact then pins a gray Dodge Challenger registered to Robinson near campus after midnight. On this view the geography is already closed, and a steakhouse 209 miles south is either a mis-ID or a card in someone else's pocket. Grandparents, a cabin, and the color of a house do not, they say, move a Cellebrite clock.

What citizen investigators say​

Investigators start with arithmetic. From a 9:47 PM card approval, a normal drive back to Orem arrives between about 12:56 and 1:27 AM. Reaching the campus by 12:30 AM requires about 77 mph with no stops, starting on two-lane US-89 during a statewide manhunt (Goforth midnight stop). The southbound leg is worse: from a claimed Orem Dairy Queen sighting at 6:38 PM to an 8:55 PM order in Panguitch takes 98–99 mph the whole way. Second, they look at the quality of the State's anchor. Officer Goforth did not testify. The court heard Hull's second-hand account of a contact hearing coverage describes as about 20 seconds, a partial plate, and a driver the officer "believed" to be Robinson. No bodycam or written stop report was presented. Project Constitution called the Goforth encounter a detail that appeared at the hearing to make the timeline fit.

Third, the texts show where a phone was, not where a man was. If the diner was Robinson, investigators say, the Orem-area texts either came from a phone that was not on his body or were sent by someone else. Staff say they gave the FBI the last four digits of the card, and the server says nobody came back. Check #211 is a Visa Debit, PIN-entry, approval code 010864, total $38.51 (sirloin $27.00, soft drinks $3.25). Citizen journalist Diligent Denizen filmed the full visit on 11 July 2026 and posted the receipt photograph on 14 August 2026.

Candace Owens said on 9 September 2026 she was now "95 percent certain" the debit card that paid the meal belonged to Robinson, up from about 60 percent after the first owner interview. Project Constitution's recap: if the card is his, he is not behind the wheel when Goforth stops that car, he is not the bald man at 12:38, and he is not starting a Maps route at 1:33. Somebody else could have held the plastic. The plastic still has a name on the account.

The owner, Ralph Perkins, told Fox in January 2026 that a quiet lone diner matching Robinson ate a medium-rare sirloin, that staff recognized him from FBI photos, that they called the Bureau, and that he handed over the last four. After harassment, negative reviews, and liquor-license threats, he sat for a later interview and inverted the story: he has no reason to believe it was Robinson, and he wants to be left alone (restaurant told not to talk). Investigators say the two servers who waited on the man remain the witnesses, and that a recant under heat is not a bank match. Until the FBI or the family puts those four digits next to Robinson's card, nobody has closed the file. The next pin south is the Cedar City Maverik the following morning — another hour on the same highway.

The POS line items matter for a second reason. A PIN-entry Visa debit is not a restaurant scribble. The approval code, the App ID, and the BBPOS reader ID are the kind of fields a bank can match in minutes. Official-side commentators spent August and September 2026 arguing about an owner's recant and about e-signatures. Investigators say that is the wrong object. The object is the authorization. Fox's January 2026 piece already had the owner describing a quiet counter diner, a medium-rare sirloin, and a PIN. Diligent Denizen's July visit had a server saying he was the one who took the card and was certain after the FBI photos. Those two statements can both be true while the owner, later, wants the cameras to stop. Geography does not recant.

The same night, two maps:

  • The overlap. A normal 9:47 PM departure from Panguitch arrives Orem 12:56–1:27 AM. A 12:30 AM campus pin requires ~77 mph with no stops on US-89 during a manhunt. A 6:38 PM Orem Dairy Queen to an 8:55 PM Panguitch order requires ~98–99 mph.

When this fight ran​

  • January 2026. Fox and other national outlets run the steakhouse as color of a guilty man eating after a murder, or as a sighting. The owner talks. Official-side accounts treat it as trivia.
  • 11 July 2026. Diligent Denizen's on-site visit and server interview. The receipt becomes a document, not a rumor.
  • 14 August 2026. The Check #211 photograph circulates widely. Official-side accounts say someone else could have held the card.
  • 30 August – 10 September 2026. Owner recant interview versus Owens' 95-percent card claim and the one-year anniversary. Official-side accounts declare the alibi debunked. Investigators demand the last-four comparison.

Why it matters for Tyler Robinson​

Panguitch is a contest over place, not description. If an authenticated card record puts Robinson at that counter at 9:47 PM, the State's night-of story — the texts, the rifle-retrieval attempt, the midnight stop — cannot all be true. A record that would settle it in minutes has not been shown in public. That is why Tyler Robinson not the assassin and proof it was not Tyler both keep this town on the table.

What would settle it​

  • The bank authorization for Check #211: cardholder, last four, time, and terminal ID.
  • The restaurant's POS log and any counter camera, with its retention record.
  • Cell-site and location data for Robinson's phone on the evening of September 10.
  • Officer Goforth's own report, notes, bodycam, and sworn testimony.
  • The partial plate as written and every vehicle it returned.
