On August 20, 2026, the X account @AMERICANFIRSTQ_ posted a roughly three-minute recording it described as an "alleged French whistleblower" speaking about a "paid assassination" of Owens. In it, an unidentified speaker claims to be a colonel in the action division of the DGSE, France's foreign intelligence service, and makes the allegation that a tasking cable named Owens as a target.
He makes a specific reference to "unit 8200." He alleges the client behind the tasking was a "unit 8200 liaison embedded inside the Élysée," with payment routed through Cyprus. Unit 8200 is Israel's signals intelligence and cyber unit — the Israel Defense Forces' counterpart to the NSA, and one of Israel's intelligence services. He further alleges a directive to carry the attack out on a live stream for maximum impact, that the intended audience is American commentators critical of Israel, that the attack would be framed as a jihadist attack, and that Owens should trust no American agency offering protective custody.
This claim is anonymous and uncorroborated, and this site does not adopt it. The speaker is unidentified, the recording has no verifiable provenance, no document or second source supports it, and Unit 8200 is a signals intelligence organization rather than a direct-action one — the allegation names the wrong kind of service for the act described. The transcript also degrades under examination, with proper names that do not resolve and phrasing consistent with synthetic generation. It is recorded here because it circulated, because it names a specific service, and because it belongs to the wider pattern of threat claims reported around Owens — not because it is credible.
