Rob McCoy
Rob McCoy (born August 10, 1964, Coronado, California) is an evangelical pastor, former politician, and co-founder of Turning Point USA Faith. He has a close connection to the Kirk family through both his pastoral role and his son Mikey McCoy's position at TPUSA.
Background
Pastoral Career
McCoy served as senior pastor of Godspeak Calvary Chapel in Thousand Oaks, California from 2001 until July 2025, when he transitioned to Pastor Emeritus. Under his leadership, Sunday attendance grew from approximately 50 to 1,500. He was ordained in 1995 and holds a B.A. in History from California State University, Fresno, with seminary training from the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary. He and his wife Michelle have five children.
McCoy gained national attention during COVID-19 for defying California gathering restrictions, resulting in fines and legal challenges.
Political Career
McCoy was elected to the Thousand Oaks City Council in 2015 (Republican) and served as mayor from 2018 to 2019. He resigned from the council in 2020. He previously ran for the California state legislature in 2014.
TPUSA Connection
McCoy co-founded Turning Point USA Faith with Charlie Kirk in 2021 and served as its co-chair. He was described as Charlie Kirk's personal pastor. His son, Mikey McCoy, became Charlie Kirk's Chief of Staff at TPUSA. Mikey described Kirk as "my boss, mentor, close friend."
Church Funding
According to reporting by the Thousand Oaks Acorn, the Heavenly Father's Foundation — a Texas-based nonprofit associated with businessman Dan Wilks — purchased a former YMCA facility for $2.85 million and planned to lease it as Godspeak's new home. McCoy publicly called Wilks a "very dear friend."
Pastoral Resignation (July 2, 2025)
McCoy formally resigned as lead pastor of Godspeak Calvary Chapel on July 2, 2025. This was a pre-planned retirement announced in January 2025.
