About This Cluster​

The "drop off" thread is the claim that N1098L did not simply overfly Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025 but descended twice to release and then recover small drones over open water. Public ADS-B data is the evidence base: researchers report the aircraft coming down to roughly 203 feet at about 116 knots — close to stall speed for a Global 6500 — hours before the 12:23 PM shooting, then repeating the same profile about twenty-three minutes afterward, roughly a mile from campus with Utah Lake below. The base geography is what this cluster illustrates, because the argument only makes sense once you can see how close the water sits to the tent.

The image on this page is the unannotated version: a high aerial photograph looking across the UVU campus, low modern academic buildings and walkways in the midground, a reflecting pond with fountains, and Utah Lake with the white Provo City Center-style temple silhouette on the horizon. It is worth holding the counter-argument in mind while looking: the operator has been reported as describing low passes of this kind as drone retrieval training, and researcher @tjphager has argued the airframe was never built out to launch drones at all.
