FBI and DPS Forensics at the Treeline
What This Image Shows
A wire photograph of four investigators gathered at the edge of a grassy area bordering a dark treeline in low, warm sunlight. Three wear FBI tactical clothing, one back reading FBI EVIDENCE RESPONSE TEAM. The fourth wears a black polo reading DPS FORENSICS across the shoulders and carries a ruggedized black tablet.
The mix of agencies is the detail. Utah Department of Public Safety forensics personnel are working the same ground as the federal evidence team, which is what a joint scene looks like in practice.
That is worth recording because the division of labour between federal and state investigators became a live issue in this case. Local and state investigators have been described as sidelined, and the intelligence-side inquiry into possible foreign links was reportedly shut down. This photograph documents at least one point at which state forensics and the bureau were working the scene together. See FBI Investigation, Joe Kent Halt, and Gun Discovery Sequence.
