The technical captions are the important part. The top frame reads 074 25W0401, Ex 6A, After preparation, 4X.tif and the bottom reads 073 25W0401, Ex 6A, After preparation, 4X, 01.tif, both stamped 9/15/2025. Set against the earlier slide in this cluster labelled As received and dated 09-11-25, the pair documents the same exhibit at two stages: as it arrived at the laboratory, and after it had been prepared for examination.
That sequence matters because the physical condition of Exhibit 6A became a contested issue. According to the defense motion, an FBI examiner who later received the fragment from the ATF noted that a portion had become detached in the packaging, and the further testing proposed would involve gripping tools to unfold deformed portions of the jacket — a process the defense argued could leave tool marks and detach more material. The defense asked to photograph the fragment in its current state and to attend or record any future testing, and those requests were denied.
