Unz Excerpt — Suspicion Inside Kirk's Circle

This is the passage from the Unz essay that has been quoted most often, with red hand-drawn underlines added by whoever captured it. It reads: "Therefore, a few hours after hearing of Kirk's death, I very gingerly raised these possibilities with someone well situated in conservative circles who personally knew Kirk, and was shocked by his response. He unequivocally told me that everyone in Kirk's circle, even including important Trump Administration officials, suspected that Israel had probably killed the young conservative leader. While such beliefs might not necessarily be correct, I was astonished that they were apparently so widespread without even a hint of those notions reported anywhere in the mainstream..."
Note what the passage is careful to claim and what it is not. Ron Unz reports a single unnamed source describing what other people allegedly believed, and Unz himself writes that "such beliefs might not necessarily be correct." It is a claim about the distribution of a suspicion, not a claim of evidence for it. No official has said this on the record, and no administration figure has been identified.
Nothing here shows that any person or government had advance knowledge of the assassination or any role in it. Prosecutors have charged a domestic suspect who has not been convicted, and no Israeli individual or institution has been shown to have any connection to Charlie Kirk's death.
