The Empty UVU Courtyard and Flag Skybridge

Wide high-angle photo of the empty terraced grass courtyard at UVU with a large United States flag draped over the railing of an elevated concrete skybridge

What This Image Shows

A wide, high-angle photograph of the UVU courtyard with nobody in it. The terraced lawns are cut into sharp concentric V shapes stepping down toward the plaza, each tier edged with a light grey concrete retaining wall, and a narrow water channel runs alongside the grass on the right. A very large United States flag hangs vertically from the railing of the elevated concrete skybridge that connects the two halves of the building above.

An empty frame of the scene is more useful than it looks. With no tent, no barricades and no crowd, the sightlines are unobstructed and the vertical relationships are legible: how high the skybridge sits above the plaza, how the terraces step, and what a person standing on the upper walkway can see of the lawn below. Those are the measurements the trajectory diagrams in Angles depend on.

Compare it with the crowd-day aerials in this cluster to see how much of the courtyard the tent and the seated audience actually blocked. For the written treatment of the space, read Courtyard, UVU Tent and UVU.
