What This Image Shows
This image is a screenshot of a social media post on X (formerly Twitter) by the account "National Conservative" (@NatCon2022). The post features text alleging that a 71-year-old man named George Zinn falsely claimed he shot Charlie Kirk in order to assist the real killer's escape. Below the text is a photograph showing an elderly man in a blue shirt being escorted and held by several men, including uniformed police officers, amidst a crowd outdoors.
The wording of that allegation is the account's, and it goes further than the on-the-record material does. Per police, Zinn said when questioned that he had claimed responsibility to draw attention away from the real shooter; that is an account of what he is reported to have said, and it does not establish that he knew who the shooter was, acted with anyone, or intended to assist an escape. The FBI stated he was not the shooter and he was cleared as such the same day. He has not been charged in connection with the killing, and any counts he reportedly faced were described as unrelated. Nothing on this page finds that he participated in any plan. See George Zinn.
