What This Image Shows​

A low-resolution outdoor frame, published with an Instagram source credit. A man with long hair and a beard stands with both fists raised above his head, mouth open. To his left is the white promotional canopy; the visible lettering reads PROVE ME WRONG, the standard signage at these campus events. Building facades fill the background.

This frame, and the near-identical one beside it in this cluster, are the images that started the crowd-reaction thread. The frame shows a raised-arm, fist-in-the-air gesture in what is said to be the seconds after the shot. What that gesture meant is not established here: the man reported to be in it has sent a message to this site's author asking that people know he did not cheer, and the exact moment this frame was taken relative to the shot has not been independently established from the surrounding footage.

Both things need to be said at once. Researchers flagged the reaction and are entitled to ask about it. Nothing about a raised-arm gesture in a crowd shows that anyone knew what was coming, and no authority has accused this man of anything. The identifications attached to him online are unconfirmed.
