Construction Crew Account and the Photo Mismatch

It quotes Dylan Hope, described here as one of the construction workers at the house, saying his crew was working on Wednesday afternoon when they heard "a loud crack come from campus."
The sequence that follows is the substance. Minutes later, an excavator operator on the site encountered a young man who said there had been a shooting — an interaction that happened, per the account, "almost immediately after the shooting, before any police officers arrived." Hope quotes the young man: "He said somebody had been shot, and he was just trying to get home safe. He seemed calm and stuff. He was shocked that someone had been shot." About an hour later, officers arrived and showed the crew a photograph of a man matching the description of the person the operator had seen.
Then the line researchers focus on: "Mr. Hope said the photo the officers showed the crew on Wednesday did not seem to look like the one the F.B.I. released to the public on Thursday." That is a witness observation reported by a newspaper, not a finding, and it may have an innocent explanation.
