The calculation is shown in full and can be checked line by line. It states: "The person is observed at 12:23:34 already running and covers 220 feet in the next 15 seconds. That means their average speed during those 15 seconds is: 220 ft divided by 15 s = 14.666 ft/s." It then works backward over an 80-foot gap to a start line — 80 divided by 14.666, giving 60/11 or about 5.45 seconds — and subtracts that from the observed timestamp, putting the start of the run a little before 12:23:29.
The conclusion the author draws is that the person on the roof was already at a full run before the shot was fired, which he argues makes that person an implausible shooter. Two assumptions carry the whole result: that the measured distances are right, and that the person ran at constant speed the whole way. The author states the second assumption openly rather than hiding it, which is the mark of an argument built to be checked. Investigators have also complained publicly that the county released this footage only from a trimmed start point, which prevents anyone verifying the earlier seconds directly.
