About This Cluster

An honest investigation has to keep its weak material visible rather than quietly discard it. This cluster is the holding area for images about the shot position that circulated widely but that do not survive scrutiny — pictures too degraded to support what their captions claim, or claims that outrun what the pixels actually contain. Keeping them here, labelled, is a defence against the charge that the investigation only shows what flatters it.

The three examples are instructive. One is a heavily blurred crop with the caption "WHENEVER YOU ZOOM," showing figures on a balcony at a distance where individual detail has already dissolved. Another is a forum post claiming a shooter is visible "hiding behind a plant on a balcony," described by the poster as wearing a white shirt and black gloves and holding a "definite rifle," with a linked YouTube video — but the attached still is so out of focus that the shapes cannot be resolved into any of those things, and the post's speculation about the person's appearance is the poster's own and is not supported by the image. The third is an aerial geometry graphic captioned "THE ANGLE OF," cut off before it states which angle or on what basis. In each case the pattern is the same: a confident caption sitting on top of an image that cannot carry it.

Read these against the better-supported material on the parent page, The Shot and the Shooter Position, and against Gun Port, where the same problem of resolution is at least acknowledged. The site's discussion of how weak claims spread through this case is at Cover Up and Media.
