A BBC News graphic assembling four surveillance stills of the same figure — descending concrete stairs and moving along a walkway — in a black long-sleeved graphic shirt, blue jeans, a cap and a black backpack.
Seeing the pack from four angles at once is what makes this composite useful. The charging affidavit lists a dark colored backpack as part of the suspect description, and the dispute over whether it could have carried a Mauser Model 98 turns on how full it looks and how it hangs. Investigation notes put the usable internal length of the light blue pack seen earlier that morning at about 17 inches, against a barreled action of roughly 28 to 32 inches once the stock is removed with a screwdriver.
