What This Image Shows​

A high-angle camera captures a person from behind climbing a flight of concrete stairs at night. They wear a long-sleeved black top, black pants, black shoes with white soles, a dark baseball cap turned backward, and a black backpack with a horizontal fixture near the top and a small light patch lower down. An overhead lamp throws a warm cast on the back of the neck.

The backward cap and the backpack are why this frame was kept. Both are points of comparison in the stairwell dispute, where researchers argue that the cap style and pack in the pre-shooting campus sequence do not match the cap and pack seen earlier the same day, and that a 22-year-old would not swap one backpack for another mid-morning. Frames from other times and places are used to test whether a given pack or cap recurs.
