About This Cluster​

The stairwell frames are the most argued-over images in the entire case file. They are the surveillance captures of a person descending an outdoor concrete staircase in a black long-sleeve shirt with a graphic on the chest, dark jeans, a cap, sunglasses and a dark backpack — the figure the charging documents identify as the suspect moving between the pedestrian tunnel, the parking garage and the Losee Center shortly before 12:23 p.m. on September 10, 2025. Everything the state's identification rests on visually runs through these frames, which is exactly why researchers have gone at them frame by frame.

The two composites here present the same descent from multiple angles, one as a side-by-side pair and one as a four-frame grid. The arguments raised against the official reading are physical rather than speculative: commentators point out that the backpack in these frames appears close to full while the light blue pack carried from the parking lot that morning appears roughly half empty, that a person who swapped shorts for jeans should end up with a less full pack rather than a more full one, and that the cap and pack simply do not match the earlier sequence. Others argue the leg movement visible on the stairs is hard to reconcile with a concealed rifle in a trouser leg, and that a Mauser Model 98 remains about 28 to 32 inches even broken down to the barreled action. None of this has been ruled on, and every version of it is a citizen-research argument rather than a court finding.
