What This Image Shows​

A high-angle wide shot of the campus plaza in bright sun. A large American flag hangs from the concrete balustrade of the multi-level building behind. Scattered groups of people stand along the paved pathway in the foreground and on the upper terraces, and arid mountains are visible in the far distance.

Another memorial-period frame, identified by the flag. The plaza is sparsely occupied compared with the event photographs.

Its use is as a control image. The same vantage, the same architecture, without a crowd - which makes the structures, the levels and the walkways legible in a way the packed frames do not allow. See Campus and University and After.
