Instagram Post and Comments on the Early Arrest

What This Image Shows

A screenshot of an Instagram post dated September 10 with 678 likes. The visual is a video or photograph of police officers walking away from the camera along a tree-lined sidewalk; the interface panel on the right shows the caption and comments.

The caption reads: "The alleged shooter of Charlie Kirk has been arrested. Authorities also recovered a rifle among his belongings. Justice is moving - the killer is off the streets." The comments dispute it immediately: "That was a bb gun. Its a break in half single shot bb gun," and "No. As of a little while ago, they said he was not the shooter and they released him. The real shooter could be five states."

The comment thread is the evidence here. Within hours, ordinary users had already established that the reported weapon was disputed and that the detained man had been released. This archive separately documents the pellet-gun man episode and the sequence of early detentions. See After the Shooting, Distraction People and Gun and Bullet.
