The correction: not Chester Barnes
The man in the hat and plaid shirt standing on Charlie Kirk's protective detail on September 10, 2025 was earlier identified on air as Chester (Claude) Barnes of Integrity Security Solutions. That identification was wrong, and Candace Owens has corrected it on the record.
Per that correction, the identification came in through her tips inbox: the man in the hat and plaid is Derek "Pepper" Williams. He goes by Pepper.
This site treats the correction the same way it treats the original claim — as an attributed identification, not a finding. What changed is which name is attached to a figure in a photograph. Nothing about the correction says that either man did anything wrong. Chester Barnes appears to have been misidentified, and the fair reading of that is stated plainly on Security Team: he may well not have been there at all.
Reported background
Two things are reported about Williams, both of them lawful occupations:
- Naval Special Warfare. He is described as a former Navy SEAL.
- Perimeter Global Logistics (PGL). After the teams, he is reported to have gone to PGL — a Texas-based government defense contractor that moves freight across the border and handles military shipping for the Department of Defense.
Cross-border freight and DoD shipping are ordinary contract work performed by many firms. Naming an employer here is a biographical detail, not an allegation, and no inference about the assassination should be drawn from either line.
Everything above about where Derek Williams has worked is only what citizen investigators have been able to piece together and believe to be the case. It is not sourced to an employment record, a company statement, a filing, or a government document.

What is still open
- Who confirms the identification? The tips inbox is a single, unnamed source. A firm roster, a credential list, or a photograph with provenance would settle it.
- Was Williams on the paid roster for September 10, or present in another capacity? Appearing in a frame near the detail is not the same as being contracted to it.
- What is the actual date range of his reported PGL employment, and was he there in September 2025 or before it?
- Where did the original Chester Barnes label come from, and how many other names on the annotated group photograph came from the same source?
- Does the corrected identification change any of the screening and credential questions already documented, or none of them?
How the misidentification fits the wider pattern
Crowd-photo naming has produced repeated errors in this case. The Integrity Security Solutions page already lists a set of unverified photo matches circulated on X — a light-blue-plaid figure, a square-sunglasses figure, an older bearded figure — and says on its face that none of them is confirmed by the firm or by law enforcement. The Barnes-to-Williams correction is another instance of exactly that, and it arrived the way the others will have to: someone who actually knew wrote in.
The lesson researchers draw from it is procedural rather than sinister. A label on a photograph is a lead, and it stays a lead until a roster, a credential, or the person themselves confirms it.
