McCoy Reportedly Phones His Wife as the Shot Lands (Claims)

:::caution Attributed claims only Mikey McCoy is a living private individual who has been accused of no crime and charged with nothing. Calling family within seconds of a catastrophe, and stepping clear of people carrying an injured man, are both ordinary and defensible conduct. The 12:23:30 timestamp below has no phone record, screenshot, or source of any kind behind it — it is an inference, and this page says so up front. :::

What is alleged

A sequence in the investigation file, written to argue that Ben Shapiro was receiving real-time updates before Erika Kirk was, lists the following: "12:23:30PM MDT Charlie Kirk was shot. 12:23:30PM MDT Mikey McCoy calls his wife Elizabeth. 12:23:55PM MDT Kirk is carried into the SUV. 12:24PM MDT SUV begins transport to the hospital." A later entry in the same list places McCoy three-waying in Erika Kirk at 12:26.

Elsewhere the file describes McCoy — TPUSA's chief of staff and, per TPUSA's own tributes, one of Kirk's closest friends of six years — as standing feet away on stage and walking away immediately after the shot with a phone to his ear. One circulating post, quoted in the file, puts it as him having "ditched the scene the SECOND the shot rang out. Walked away cool as ice, phone to ear... while everyone else dove to save Charlie." Candace Owens has publicly raised his reaction and his walking away. The file's own second-by-second reconstruction records that at 00:33 — 12:24:03 — "Mikey McCoy is well past the SUV, without Blake Neff."

The 12:23:30 call timestamp is the part that must be flagged. It appears with no phone record, no carrier log, no screenshot, no cited witness, and no source of any kind. It is not evidence that a call was placed in that second; it is somebody's inference, and it reads as reverse-engineered from footage of a man holding a phone. The file presents it in a list formatted to look like a record. It is not one.

The ordinary explanation

A chief of staff whose principal has just been shot in front of him, phoning his family within seconds, is exactly what a competent staffer does — and exactly what most people do in the worst moment of their lives. Word of a shooting at a televised event travels in seconds; someone in his position has every reason to reach his wife before she sees it on a screen and does not know whether he is alive. Reading a call to one's spouse as evidence of foreknowledge inverts the most human explanation available.

The "walked away while everyone else dove to save Charlie" framing does not survive contact with the scene. Kirk was being carried by security to a vehicle. In that situation the useful thing a non-medical staffer can do is get out of the way so the people carrying a body are not obstructed — and then start making the calls that have to be made. McCoy is not a physician. There was nothing for him to contribute at the SUV that six people already carrying Kirk needed. That he is "well past the SUV" at 12:24:03 describes a man who cleared the path and went to work on the phone, which is what a chief of staff is for.

On the timestamp itself: even if a call log eventually shows a call to Elizabeth McCoy around that minute, clock drift of seconds between carrier records and video overlays is routine, and matching a call to a specific second from footage is not possible. The alignment that makes the item feel uncanny — same second as the shot — is precisely the part with no evidentiary basis.

What would settle it

  1. Obtain Mikey McCoy's carrier records for 12:18–12:28 p.m. MT through lawful process, and compare them against synchronized video.
  2. Identify the author of the reconstruction and ask what the 12:23:30 figure was derived from.
  3. Establish the clock offset between the livestream overlay, campus cameras, and carrier timestamps before comparing any of them.
  4. Ask McCoy directly, on the record, whom he called and when — a question no one appears to have put to him.
