The Burnt Object in the SUV (Claims)
:::caution Attributed claims only Nothing in the SUV has been recovered, tested, or examined by any laboratory, and no chain of custody exists for any of it. Kirk was wearing a RØDE transmitter, so RØDE parts in the vehicle would be unremarkable. No person is accused of anything here. These are social-media interpretations of a compressed photograph, not authenticated forensic findings. :::

What is alleged
The post argues that while much of the burnt object is melted polyester from Kirk's shirt fused with charred skin, a thicker black section on its left side "appears to contain a melted female audio jack — the exact same type of jack found on the top of the RØDE Wireless ME transmitter that Charlie was wearing under his shirt, clipped to his belt." It further claims that a fragment in the center of the mass bears "visible writing and a circular symbol" said to match warning symbols from a modified battery pack used inside the transmitter. Separately, @DiligentDenizen amplified claims of shattered tempered glass "like from a RODE microphone" scattered across the SUV floorboard.
The theory conflicts with itself on the most basic fact — which device it is talking about. The investigation file flags this explicitly: this post says RØDE Wireless ME, while the site's own microphone page and the Butch Hibbs pocket-object dimensional argument (roughly 2 × 2 inches) are built on the Wireless PRO. Those are different products with different housings, different dimensions, and different jack placement. As the file puts it: "A parts-match claim unsure which product it's matching can't establish a match." The two theories cannot both rest on the same object.
Chain of custody is unestablished. The vehicle was later photographed at an auto auction, which is covered at the SUV's blurred windows.
The ordinary explanation
Debris in the vehicle is fully expected, and this is the point that does the most work. Kirk was wearing a RØDE transmitter. RØDE parts in the SUV are exactly what you would predict from a man being carried into a vehicle, cut out of his clothing, and worked on by people administering first aid in a moving car — with no explosion required at any point. A rifle round transiting the neck could also destroy a belt-clipped transmitter mechanically, without any device having been modified.
Identifying a "female audio jack" and a "circular warning symbol" in a zoomed, re-compressed photograph of charred material is the textbook setup for pareidolia. The image is a screenshot of a video frame of the original photo — each generation adds JPEG artifacts, and artifacts around high-contrast edges routinely produce shapes that read as structure. The post's own annotation poses the jack as a question mark, conceding the resolution does not support the call. The battery label is an ordinary aftermarket replacement label carrying standard compliance symbols; calling it "the modified battery pack" assumes the conclusion.
Skeptics add a physical objection. @troofevades, quoting @Trillion0x, notes that a real shaped charge produces a large fireball and smoke cloud — "that's a lot of smoke that I dont see at the CK event" — and that Jon Bray has promised a simulated test of the theory for over six months without delivering one. Proponents counter that a micro-charge would not produce a comparable signature.
What would settle it
- Obtain the original uncompressed @michael_vina27 photograph at full resolution, not a screenshot of a video frame, with a scale reference in frame.
- Physically recover the object and submit it for laboratory examination and explosive-residue testing.
- Establish which RØDE model Kirk actually wore — ME or PRO — because both theories on this site depend on the answer and they give different ones.
- Obtain the chain of custody for the SUV from the hospital to the auto auction, and establish who released it.
- Have Jon Bray or anyone else actually run the promised simulated shaped-charge test and publish the result either way.
