Surveillance Cameras: Tyler Robinson Sightings Timeline
This page traverses one evidence class: every timestamped camera frame that investigators or commentators have attributed to Tyler Robinson across September 10–11, 2025. Neighborhood Ring and WYZE doorbells, UVU campus surveillance, the stairwell and rooftop stills, merchant CCTV, and — just as important — the intervals where a camera should exist and no footage has been released.
Robinson is charged, not convicted. Cameras record movement, not identity: every "Robinson" below is an attribution made by a human reading footage, and on several frames that attribution is actively disputed.
The Timeline
Morning — neighborhood cameras (8:07 to 9:57 AM MDT)
-
8:07 AM MDT — A Ring doorbell on S 800 W captures a figure walking toward campus in a maroon shirt and light-colored shorts; one widely circulated version of this clip, sourced to TMZ, describes the shirt as "plum" and the shorts as dark, an early wardrobe discrepancy carried through the whole camera chain.
-
8:23 AM MDT — A WYZE camera on W 880 S captures the figure driving, one of only two vehicle frames in the entire morning sequence — the other being the campus arrival six minutes later, per the vehicle chronology.
-
8:29 AM MDT — UVU surveillance records arrival on campus in a grey Dodge Challenger, wearing a maroon t-shirt, light shorts, light shoes, and a black hat with a white logo. The probable-cause affidavit cites this frame; notably it records no backpack and never states when the vehicle left the lot — see Affidavit of Probable Cause.
-
9:57 AM MDT — A WYZE camera on W 880 S captures the figure again, now on foot. This is the last frame before the reported clothing change.
-
~10:00 to 11:44 AM MDT — no released footage — Roughly one hour and forty-five minutes with no publicly released camera frame, the interval in which the clothing change must have occurred. Where it happened, and whether any camera recorded it, is not in the public record — see the gaps timeline. Citizen posts in July 2026 also allege a mid-morning Chick-fil-A on campus stop with no released stills despite dense cameras — still only an allegation.
Late morning — the return (11:44 to 11:53 AM MDT)
-
11:44 AM MDT — A Ring camera on W 800 S captures a figure now in jeans and a long-sleeve shirt, the first frame on the far side of the wardrobe seam.
-
11:49 AM MDT — A Ring camera on S 800 W captures the figure walking toward campus again. Citizen researchers note this is the same street and the same approach direction as the 8:07 frame, and that Phil Lyman's car was reportedly parked at that house from 11:30 AM — a coincidence the site records without asserting meaning.
-
~11:50 AM MDT — The first UVU surveillance frame the affidavit uses: a figure crossing a grassy area north of Campus Drive at roughly 800 West, in a black long-sleeve shirt with an American flag and eagle, dark jeans, dark cap, large sunglasses, dark backpack, walking with a stiff right leg and a pronounced limp.
-
11:53 AM MDT — The figure pauses at the top of the tunnel stairs, removes what appears to be a cellphone from the right pocket with the right hand, and replaces it. This is the most-analyzed frame in the sequence because it is one of the few showing hand detail — and because a phone visible that clearly in a tight pocket is used in the Backpack Rifle Impossibility argument.
Midday — the Losee Center sequence (12:02 to 12:23 PM MDT)
-
12:02 PM MDT — UVU cameras record the figure on the north side of the Losee Center, same gait, entering the building through the southeast corner doors.
-
12:15 PM MDT — The figure is observed walking up the stairs to the common area adjacent to the Losee Center — the frames later released publicly as the "stairwell photos," and the frames Kash Patel described on Fox News as "enhanced," which the defense argues means they are not fair and accurate representations of the original scene: see Enhanced Suspect Photos.
-
12:17 PM MDT — The figure climbs the short concrete wall onto the Losee Center roof and crouches on the north side of it, out of most camera lines.
-
12:22 PM MDT — The figure stands and runs across the rooftop — and the affidavit itself notes that "the notable limp from previous surveillance was absent." That single sentence is the strongest official-document support for the Stairs Guy identity gap argument that the morning figure and the rooftop figure may not be the same person.
-
12:22 PM MDT — The figure lies prone near the west edge of the roof facing the courtyard, in the shooting position the state's case is built on.
-
12:23 PM MDT — The shot. Surveillance stills at 12:23:29, 12:23:34, 12:23:45, and 12:23:54 trace movement from the shooting position to the northeast corner of the Losee Center — about 25 seconds across the roof, per frame-by-frame work summarized on the minute-by-minute page. Some media timelines still use 12:27 PM for the shot; see Shooting Time Disputes. Critically, these are posture/movement stills around the shot window — they are not universally accepted as a clear public video of the trigger pull itself (see July 2026 prosecutor colloquy below).
-
12:23–12:24 PM MDT — The figure places a dark item on the roof, lowers himself off the northeast edge onto the grass, and runs north — the sequence at the center of the roof-jumping feasibility dispute and the post-shot escape timeline.
-
12:24 PM MDT — The figure crosses Campus Drive northbound carrying an unidentified item, and the released footage ends. The rifle was recovered in the wooded area beyond, but no camera frame shows the item being placed there.
Afternoon and evening — merchant cameras and overnight gap
-
~12:25 PM to 6:38 PM MDT — no released footage — Just over six hours with no publicly released frame of the figure anywhere, despite the density of cameras between campus and Orem; see UVU HD Footage Withheld.
-
6:38 PM MDT — A photo released by Candace Owens reportedly shows Robinson at a Dairy Queen in Orem (813 E 800 N), about 17 minutes from campus, appearing calm, in a maroon shirt, blue jeans, hat, and sunglasses. The clothing here resembles the morning wardrobe, not the rooftop wardrobe. Authenticity later becomes a two-way public fight (July 2026 — below).
-
8:55 to 9:47 PM MDT (contested) — A circulated Cowboy's Smokehouse receipt (Check 211) is dated 9/10/25 with an order time of 8:55 PM and card payment at 9:47 PM; the poster claims wait staff identified the customer as Robinson and that the location is "3-plus hours from UVU." The receipt is unauthenticated, the location is unconfirmed, and the drive-time claim is the poster's — see Cowboy's Smokehouse Receipt. Hard drive-time math later used online argues Orem DQ 6:38 PM → Panguitch Cowboy's ~8:55 PM cannot both be true without extreme speeds (~200+ miles / ~3h+ drive vs ~2h17m window).
-
~11:00 PM MDT, Sept 10, 2025 (prosecution timeline as described at prelim) — According to hearing summaries recirculated online, texts attributed to the charged subject describe remaining near campus to recover a rifle, then abandoning it under police presence ("alright im gonna have to leave it…"). Treat message content as contested evidence, not established fact — see cell-tower and phone-data timeline.
-
~12:30–1:30 AM MDT, Sept 11, 2025 (hearing claim) — UVU or nearby cameras reportedly capture a vehicle attempting to re-enter a campus road, with a brief interaction with an officer on security detail, before departure south. KSL reported Ring doorbell footage of late-night residential parking introduced at the prelim. These frames are not yet itemized on the public affidavit-era map on this page; they partially fill the post-6:38 gap. See also post-shot escape.
September 11 — travel and the release problem
-
7:15–7:17 AM MDT, September 11 — Maverik gas station CCTV in Cedar City captures the grey Dodge Challenger; the driver pays at the pump by credit card and does not approach any trash cans, contradicting the early alert to check bins for dumped evidence — see Merchant and Travel CCTV.
-
~7:17 AM to evening, September 11 — no released footage — The entire day in southern Utah is uncovered by any released camera frame, up to the surrender described on the custody and surrender timeline.
-
7:17 PM Central / 6:17 PM MDT, September 11 — The second set of stairwell photos is released to the public. Baron Coleman argues Robinson was already in custody and being Mirandized at 6:25 PM MDT, making a public "help us find him" release logically inverted — see Custody Timeline vs Fake Confession.
-
7:58 PM MDT, September 11 — At the Utah County press conference, officials release the "enhanced" stairwell stills and a video of a tiny figure running on the Losee Center roof. Critics including Coleman argue the rooftop figure is too few pixels for a parent to identify a child from — the identification the FBI's account depends on; see Rooftop Video Trimmed.
-
Ongoing — The released suspect video is repeatedly described by investigators as "1973-quality VHS" — resolution so low that gait, build, and clothing detail cannot be independently checked. UVU is documented to hold higher-definition footage that has not been released: UVU HD Footage Withheld. Separately, LE bodycam non-capture / non-release in the shooting window is tracked on bodycam GRAMA and UVU security timeline. The broader GRAMA redaction fight over UVU's own records is at UVU records redacted and UVU GRAMA pre-shooting warnings.
July 2026 preliminary hearing — new video, no shot tape, authenticity wars
-
July 7, 2026 (approx.) — Prosecutors play previously unreleased campus surveillance of the charged suspect at the preliminary hearing. Fox and other reporters describe an officer narrating a limp and a climb onto the building believed to be the sniper position. Viral clips (@CinemaShogun, @MattFinnFNC, @MJTruthUltra and others) frame the package as answering influencers who said "Tyler was never there." Identification remains an allegation by the State; Robinson is charged, not convicted.
-
July 2026 (court colloquy as reported) — When Judge Tony Graf asked whether there was footage of the shooting itself, a prosecutor is quoted answering "There is not, Judge." That admission sits in tension with some media claims (e.g. Jack Posobiec on the Megyn Kelly Show that he had seen surveillance of Robinson taking the shot). Attribute both; the court colloquy is the cleaner negative-evidence clock for this page.
-
July 2026 (testimony summaries) — SBI Agent David Hull is widely described as the primary sworn identifier of the campus video subject by appearance, clothing, and timeline (including Losee climb ~12:22, prone, then flee). Useful for the Conflicts table: who is doing the identification under oath.
-
July 2026 (technical claim) — Posters assert UVU analysis used BriefCam video analytics (vendor HQ often described as Israel) to trace the subject across cameras. Confirm against discovery before elevating beyond "claimed"; corporate HQ ≠ state involvement — see also Israeli tech in the investigation and cell/phone data timeline.
-
July 17–18, 2026 — Authenticity of the 6:38 PM Dairy Queen image becomes a public fight: @DiligentDenizen and @BasedSamParker argue shoe/hat/jeans mismatches (e.g. white shoes vs grey shoes on 9/10 frames), prosecutor omission from the official timeline, and that the still may not be Sept 10; others treat it as proof the charged suspect was still local hours after the shot. Some claim the DQ still was leaked to Candace to discredit the Panguitch / Cowboy's alibi thread. See Candace Owens timeline.
-
July 17–19, 2026 — Competing staff-ID vs owner-denial accounts around Cowboy's Smokehouse peak; @DiligentDenizen amplifies an interview claiming staff identified Tyler and that neither state nor defense contacted them after they said they turned information into the FBI. Drive-time math vs DQ remains the sharpest internal inconsistency on this page.
Conflicts and Disputed Points
| Point | Version A | Version B |
|---|---|---|
| 8:07 clothing | Maroon shirt, light shorts (affidavit-aligned compilations) | Plum shirt, dark shorts, backpack visible (TMZ-sourced description) |
| Backpack at 8:29 | Affidavit records no backpack at campus arrival | Later frames show a full dark backpack; when it was acquired is unrecorded |
| Same person all day | One continuous subject across all frames; Hull prelim narration | The morning "waif-like" figure and the afternoon "linebacker-shouldered" figure look different (Coleman) |
| The limp | Distinctive stiff-right-leg gait identifies the subject; hearing packages re-emphasize limp | The affidavit itself says the limp is absent on the rooftop run |
| Stairwell photos | Legitimate enhancement for clarity | "Enhanced" means altered; visible overlays and non-anatomical facial lines (Coleman, defense argument) |
| Photo release timing | Standard manhunt procedure | Released after the suspect was already Mirandized and in custody |
| Footage of the shot itself | Some media personalities claim they saw "taking the shot" tape | Prosecutor to Judge Graf (as reported): "There is not, Judge" |
| July 2026 "never-before-seen" campus package | Proves presence on campus / climb sequence | Still LE attribution of identity; public may still lack HD exports |
| 6:38 PM Dairy Queen | Places Robinson in Orem hours after the shot (Owens release) | Shoe/hat/jeans mismatches; wrong date; prosecutor omitted it (Denizen / Parker, July 2026) |
| Cowboy's Smokehouse receipt | Potential alibi with a witness identification | Unauthenticated receipt; drive-time vs DQ impossible; owner/staff accounts conflict |
Open Questions
- Where are the original camera exports — Ring and WYZE cloud files, UVU DVR files — with device clocks and hash values, rather than re-posted social clips?
- When did the grey Dodge Challenger leave the UVU parking lot? The affidavit records the arrival and never the departure.
- What camera, if any, covers the 9:57 to 11:44 AM window in which the clothing change occurred — including any Chick-fil-A or merchant stop?
- Why does the affidavit note the limp disappearing on the roof without resolving it?
- What exactly was "enhanced" in the stairwell stills, by what process, and does an unaltered original still exist?
- Why were suspect photos released after the subject was in custody, and who authorized that release?
- Does UVU's high-definition footage — including any better copy shown in the July 2026 prelim — show the rooftop sequence at a resolution that permits independent identification?
- What is the chain of custody and date stamp for the Dairy Queen still, and can DQ and Cowboy's both be true on drive-time math?
- Will the overnight (~12:30–1:30 AM) vehicle/Ring frames from the prelim be released with hashes and officer IDs?
Laws (Charlie Kirk)
The original unenhanced UVU surveillance exports with device timestamps and chain-of-custody logs, the raw Ring and WYZE cloud files for all six morning sightings, the full high-definition rooftop and stairwell footage UVU has acknowledged holding, the unreleased footage covering the 9:57 to 11:44 AM clothing-change window and the six-hour afternoon gap, and the technical record of what was done to the "enhanced" stairwell images and by whom are things the Charlie Kirk Investigation Laws may result in powerful truths coming out that aren't out yet.
