Custody, Surrender & Mirandizing Timeline (September 11–12)

This is the narrowest and most consequential window in the case: roughly thirty hours in which Tyler Robinson went from unnamed to booked, and in which four different documents record four different moments as the start of custody. If the 6:25 PM Miranda timestamp is correct, the evening press conference and the 7:57 PM Discord messages both happened after he was already sitting in a sheriff's interview room. Robinson is charged, not convicted, and no court has found that any official named below did anything wrong. All times Mountain Time.

September 11 — Daytime: Still a Manhunt​

  • 6:00 AM Sept 11 — President Donald Trump says on Fox & Friends, "with a high degree of certainty," that the suspected killer is in custody — hours before any publicly acknowledged surrender (press conferences and statements).

  • 7:15 AM Sept 11 — A gray Dodge Challenger is captured on surveillance at the Cedar City Maverik, about 215 miles south of Orem, on the route toward Washington County; the driver pays by card and departs in under three minutes (vehicle movements).

  • 9:58 AM Sept 11 — The FBI's Salt Lake City field office releases the first two person-of-interest photos (SLC Field Office).

  • 10:44 AM Sept 11 — A $100,000 reward is announced (suspect manhunt).

  • Daytime Sept 11 — Per the probable-cause narrative, Robinson's father contacts a family friend, retired Washington County deputy Mike Mitchell, after Robinson allegedly confessed to him; other accounts name retired detective Scott Messinger as the intermediary, a naming conflict this site does not resolve (Tyler Robinson's family).

  • Afternoon Sept 11 (disputed) — Investigators including Baron Coleman have reported hearing that Robinson may have turned himself in "very early in the afternoon, not late in the evening" — possibly as early as 3:00 PM. This is unverified hearsay, but it is the reason the missing surrender video matters (missing surrender footage).

  • ~2:48–3:00 PM Sept 11 (arithmetic inference only) — Citizen analysts, including posts amplified by @VLuvMully, argue that if the Miranda utterance sits at continuous-recording mark 03:36:53, the interview room may have been occupied since roughly 2:48–3:00 PM (about 3.5 hours of tape before the rights reading). That is reverse math from Bates video marks, not a court finding that custody began then (custody vs Discord confession).

  • 6:17 PM Sept 11 — The FBI releases additional person-of-interest photos — eight minutes before the Miranda video timestamp (enhanced suspect photos).

September 11 — 6:25 PM: The Miranda Timestamp​

  • 6:25 PM Sept 11 — A defense motion (Bates 003996-R2) describes a video of the encounter whose timestamp reads 6:25 p.m., in which an officer says: "Before we begin, I'm just gonna read you your rights... You have the right to remain silent." Robinson acknowledges each right. Commentary (e.g. @SteveCameronPr1, April 2026) treats the State as not having publicly disputed that clock time even while the calendar date remains contested (Mirandizing).

  • 6:25 PM Sept 11 (invocation) — He then invokes counsel: "I'd like to speak with my legal counsel. I'm hoping for a fella named Doug Terry. Told he's a pretty good attorney here. Think my folks are trying to get a hold of him." (defense team).

  • 6:26 PM Sept 11 — "I think his office is closed for the night." Coleman's argument turns on this phrase: a Thursday-evening office closes for the night; a Friday-evening office closes for the weekend. The wording, he argues, dates the video to Sept 11 (Baron Coleman's early-turn-in argument).

  • 6:26 PM Sept 11 — "Until I've had the opportunity to speak with someone, I would like to remain silent." Everything the State later attributes to Robinson as statement evidence has to be reconciled with this invocation (Miranda defense filing).

  • Bates R1 vs R2 (researcher claim) — Analysts note that Bates 003996-R1 appears to excerpt the same source video near the ~6m50s mark while R2 lands at 3h36m53s, arguing the suffixes mark revised production of one continuous WCSO recording rather than multi-day merges. Attribution only; discovery Bates protocol is the claimed constraint (Miranda defense filing).

  • 6:25 PM Sept 11 or 12 (disputed date) — The document as filed carries a time but no date. Washington County Deputy Attorney Courtney Sinagra told The American Prospect (April 2026) that "evening of arrest" language points to Sept 12, because formal arrest was recorded after transport to Utah County and Robinson was never "arrested" in Washington County. Critics answer with "closed for the night," Doug Terry's local geography, and the continuous-recording math (investigative hold counterpoint).

  • ~6:30 PM Sept 11 (inference) — Coleman notes that a 10:00 PM arrest by an officer driving 3.25–4 hours from Utah County requires a departure around 6:30 PM — within minutes of the Miranda timestamp, and roughly 90 minutes before the tip that supposedly triggered everything (arrest time discrepancy).

  • ~6:50 PM Sept 11 (researcher claim) — Posts including @ImBreckWorsham argue that by about 6:50 PM belongings — including a phone — would already have been booked into evidence under ordinary WCSO intake practice, so a handset-origin Discord post at 7:57 PM would be impossible under an early-custody reading. Counter: Discord can be reached from any device; property-receipt times remain unreleased (custody vs Discord confession).

September 11 — Evening: The Official Sequence​

  • ~7:00 PM Sept 11 (family-confirmation claim) — A widely circulated @DiligentDenizen clip (May 2026) attributes to a family source an arrival around ~7 PM, with the phone taken immediately and station hold until after midnight. That clock conflicts with Brooksby's "just before 9 p.m." and the PCA's 2226 hours — three arrival stories, not one.

  • 7:57 PM Sept 11 — Discord messages allegedly posted under zealous_moneky_55095 / zealous_monkey_55095 (spelling varies in secondary accounts) say "It was me at UVU yesterday" and "Im surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments" — roughly 90 minutes after the Miranda timestamp, and about five minutes before the Brooksby tip call that officially starts the surrender sequence (Discord custody timeline, custody vs Discord confession).

  • 7:58–8:00 PM Sept 11 — The Utah County press conference releases "enhanced" stairwell photos and rooftop video, with Governor Spencer Cox, Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson, FBI Director Kash Patel, Deputy Director Dan Bongino, Sheriff Mike Smith and SAC Robert Bohls present — a podium that presented the suspect as still at large (Mirandized Sept 11 image).

  • 8:02 PM Sept 11 — Sheriff Nate Brooksby says he received a call from a retired-deputy friend: "I know who Charlie Kirk's shooter is... he's in Washington County now and we're working on trying to get him to come in voluntarily," adding that the caller mentioned suicidal ideations and a possible drive to a remote area. Per Brooksby as reported by The American Prospect / ABC, that tip call lasted about 1 minute 41 seconds (Miranda vs Brooksby account).

  • 8:04 PM Sept 11 — The probable-cause statement records Sheriff Smith receiving Brooksby's call at 2004 hours — while, critics note, Smith was standing at the Utah County press conference. Prospect reporting of Brooksby's account puts the Brooksby→Smith relay at about 40 seconds (Utah County Sheriff).

  • 8:30 PM Sept 11 (per court testimony) — Per @BasedSamParker's summary of Officer Brian Davis's testimony, Davis was ordered to fly to St. George at 8:30 PM — before the 9:00 PM surrender in the official account, and with State Bureau of Investigation personnel already on the ground (Preliminary Hearing).

  • ~9:00 PM Sept 11 (official / media version) — AP, CBS, KSL and Brooksby's Sept 17 press conference say Robinson arrived shortly before 9 p.m., driven with parents and a retired detective / family friend, "truly fearful of being shot," and received by plainclothes detectives with water and no WCSO interrogation. Candace Owens–amplified commentary stresses Brooksby's own framing that Robinson set peaceful terms (including no SWAT at the parents' house), walked in, asked for a lawyer, and — per relatives quoted in investigation narratives — never confessed to killing Kirk on that night (Tyler Robinson's surrender).

  • 10:00 PM Sept 11 (booking-sheet version) — The Inmate Booking Sheet and PC Statement records Arrest Date 09/11/2025 10:00 PM, arresting officer DAVIS, arrest agency "Other," arrest location "Outside Ut Cnty." Early public circulation of that sheet (including Crowder-linked posts) made the 10:00 PM DAVIS line one of the first primary documents civilian researchers could screenshot (arrest, booking and affidavit timeline).

  • 10:26 PM Sept 11 (government-document version) — The probable-cause narrative states Robinson "arrived at the Washington County Sheriff's Office accompanied by his parents at approximately 2226 hours," wearing a dark hat, maroon T-shirt, jeans and white/gray Converse-style shoes — clothing the document notes was not consistent with the surveillance clothing. The 2226 arrival line also conflicts with Brooksby's "just before 9 p.m." framing (Washington County Sheriff's Office).

  • Evening Sept 11 (conditions) — Accounts agree he was placed uncuffed on a couch with his parents, given water, and not questioned by Washington County personnel, who said their role was only to facilitate a peaceful surrender (Tyler Robinson's surrender).

  • Evening Sept 11 (documentation) — Sergeant Elsholz of the Utah State Bureau of Investigation provided a photo of Robinson's Utah driver license, which Agent Davis had taken from his person (rifle and evidence chain of custody).

September 12 — Transport and Booking​

  • ~Midnight Sept 11–12 — Davis testified he did not arrive until near midnight, which sits uneasily beside his own name on the 10:00 PM arrest line (the "did not surrender" argument).

  • ~12:30 AM–2:00 AM Sept 12 — After roughly 2.5 hours at the sheriff's office, custody transfers to federal and state investigators for the 250-mile, 3.5–4 hour drive north (Utah County jail custody).

  • 1:58 AM Sept 12 — The booking record logs Date In 09/12/2025 01:58, under Booking #460956 (Utah County Jail).

  • 4:00 AM Sept 12 — The affidavit lists the formal arrest time as 09/12/2025 04:00. Critics argue this reflects when the Affidavit of Probable Cause was ready for judicial review rather than when custody began, since there was no arrest warrant to execute (probable cause affidavit).

  • 7:18 AM Sept 12 — Probable Cause entered by UTBDAVIS — Brian Davis, a sworn officer with the Utah Attorney General's office (UT018015A); Probable Cause ID 189904; Booking Agency ORI UT0250000; OTN 70090584 (case overview).

  • 7:00–7:30 AM Sept 12 — Director Patel describes a "33-hour manhunt." From 12:23 PM Sept 10 that lands at 9:23 PM Sept 11 — three hours after the Miranda timestamp, and roughly 30 hours by the defense filing's clock (Kash Patel manhunt timeline, Kash Patel briefings).

  • Charges at booking — Aggravated Murder (76-5-202), Obstruction of Justice (76-8-306), and Felony Discharge of a Firearm Causing Serious Bodily Injury (76-11-210); held without bail (Fourth District Court, Provo).

Afterward — The Records That Vanished​

  • Sept 17, 2025 — Brooksby holds a press conference re-affirming the 33-hour manhunt and restating the 8:02 PM and 8:04 PM calls, including the "truly fearful of being shot" and voluntary-walk-in framing (official statements).

  • Late 2025 – 2026 (GRAMA path) — Reporting (The American Prospect, KOMO/Scripps) describes a multi-step GRAMA public-records path: early requests answered as wrong entrance or wrong camera, then lobby CCTV of the surrender declared gone under a 30-day retention policy; in a GRAMA appeal the county also states on the record that no officer had a bodycam rolling. That is a chain of non-production, not proof of intentional destruction (GRAMA and bodycam, no footage, sheriff video withheld).

  • July 2026 prelim (process fact) — Media and hearing summaries state the defense did not cross-examine Agent Brian Davis on the surrender, transport, Discord, and physical-evidence package he sponsored. Pro-guilt commentators treat that as undercutting timeline challenges; it remains a procedural observation, not proof of guilt or of clock accuracy (Preliminary Hearing).

  • March 27, 2026 — Sheriff Brooksby resigns without a public Kirk-case explanation; UVU President Astrid S. Tuminez also departed in the same period. The American Prospect reports an anonymous letter to the county commission alleging interference in an unrelated deputy criminal-investigation-records matter — an attributed allegation about resignation context, not a finding tying Brooksby to falsifying the surrender clocks (Brooksby resignation).

  • 2026 (litigation) — Defense filings continue to press on whether surrender footage exists in law-enforcement hands despite the retention claim (discovery and Brady disputes, discovery timeline).

  1. What date does the metadata on the Bates 003996-R2 video carry, and why was the date stripped from the filed excerpt? Do R1 (~6m50s) and R2 (3h36m53s) share one continuous source file under discovery Bates rules?
  2. If Officer Davis is the named arresting officer at 10:00 PM in Hurricane, what time did he leave Utah County, and who ordered the departure?
  3. Why was the Utah County press conference held at 7:58 PM if the suspect was already in a Washington County interview room?
  4. Who posted the 7:57 PM Discord messages, and from which device and IP address? Does a property receipt show when Robinson's phone was taken?
  5. Does any surviving copy of the Washington County lobby CCTV or bodycam footage exist in state or federal hands, and what exact timestamps does the KOMO/Scripps GRAMA file show?
  6. Why does the county's own record note that Robinson's clothing did not match the surveillance clothing, and where is the clothing from Sept 10?
  7. Which arrival clock is correct — ~7 PM (family claim), ~9 PM (Brooksby), or 2226 (PCA) — and who drove the vehicle (parents, retired detective, both)?

  • The complete unredacted Bates 003996-R2 Miranda video with intact metadata, the Washington County lobby CCTV and every bodycam file from the evening of September 11, the dispatch and travel logs showing when Officer Brian Davis left Utah County, the Discord account access and IP logs behind the 7:57 PM messages, and the internal communications between the Utah County and Washington County sheriffs' offices that night are things that the Charlie Kirk Investigation Laws may result in powerful truths coming out that aren't out yet.

Court Video: He Turned Himself In on September 11, Before 6:25 PM​

Preliminary-hearing audio. A state witness places the last text off Lance Twiggs' phone at about 7:42 PM on September 11, is offered September 12 as an alternative, declines it, and agrees September 11 "was when he turned himself in." Source: @JohPersso on X, 2 September 2026.

The September 11 turn-in is no longer only a citizen reading of a leaked exhibit. Three records now point at the same evening: the discovery index lists exhibit Bates 3996-R1 as "Video at WCSO on 9/11/2025"; page 70 of a defense filing quotes companion exhibit Bates 003996-R2 showing the Miranda warning at 06:25 PM and the invocation of counsel at 06:26 PM; and in the clip here the state's own witness, given an explicit chance to move the date to September 12, keeps it at September 11.

If Tyler Robinson was in custody and Mirandized at 6:25 PM, he could not have posted the Discord confession timestamped 7:57 PM that same evening. That is the argument, and it is now document-backed rather than inferred.

Two ordinary explanations stay open and are recorded in full on the linked page: the 6:25 PM reading could be a misread frame or an internal video clock not synced to wall time, or someone other than Robinson could have had the account — which would undo the confession as a confession by a different route. Nothing here states that any witness or official said anything untrue.
