6:25 PM Custody vs Discord Confession Timeline Conflict

This page covers one narrow window — roughly 3:00 PM September 11 through 4:00 AM September 12, 2025 (all times MDT unless marked) — and one question inside it: was Tyler Robinson already in custody and Mirandized at 6:25 PM on September 11, an hour and a half before the Discord messages attributed to him appeared at 7:57 PM? Robinson is charged, not convicted. Everything below is either a document timestamp, a reported account, or a named researcher's inference, and the official counterargument gets its own section.

Why this window matters​

The publicly reported sequence runs: suspect photos released, the father recognizes his son, the family persuades him to surrender, surrender around 9–10 PM — with a confession already posted at 7:57 PM. Researchers including Baron Coleman argue that a defense filing quoting a Washington County video exhibit inverts that order, because it places Robinson in an interview room being read his rights before the photos went out and before the Discord post appeared. If that reading is correct, the Discord messages were typed by someone who was not in that room. That is why this one timestamp is treated here as the sharpest conflict in the case; the underlying documents are collected on the custody timeline and fake-confession analysis.

The Timeline​

Afternoon, September 11​

  • ~2:48–3:00 PM (arithmetic inference) — Coleman and citizen analysts (including @VLuvMully) argue from the running time code on the exhibit video that an interviewer was already in the room by roughly 2:48–3:00 PM, because the 6:25 PM utterance falls at the 03:36:53 mark of a continuous recording (~3.5 hours of tape). This is reverse math from the Bates 003996-R2 defense filing, not a stated fact inside the document.

  • ~Mid-afternoon (unverified account) — In a podcast interview Coleman said he had heard Robinson turned himself in "very early in the afternoon, not late in the evening," possibly "as early as three p.m.," while stating plainly that he had not been able to fact-check it himself; tracked at Baron Coleman's early turn-in claim and on his own timeline page.

  • ~6:00 PM (claim) — Citizen researchers assert Robinson arrived at the Washington County Sheriff's Office in Hurricane, Utah with his parents and a family friend "around 6:00," which contradicts the later official "around 9 PM" arrival; the missing surrender footage is the evidence that would settle it.

  • 6:17 PM MDT / 7:17 PM CT (per Coleman) — Coleman states the second set of "enhanced" stairwell suspect photos went out at 7:17 PM Central, arguing Robinson was already in a custodial interview at that moment. That is the core of the photos-released-after-custody argument and of the Enhanced Suspect Photos analysis.

6:25 PM — the disputed Miranda timestamp​

  • 6:25 PM / video mark 03:36:53 — The defense filing quotes the exhibit as recording: "So Tyler, um, before we begin, I'm just gonna read you your rights… you have the right to remain silent…" The filing gives a clock time but no calendar date, and that omission is the hinge of the entire dispute — see Mirandized September 11 (image evidence) and the Mirandizing of Tyler Robinson. Commentary such as @SteveCameronPr1 (April 2026) treats the State as not having publicly disputed the time even while the date remains contested.

  • 6:26 PM / video mark 03:37:38 — The same exhibit records: "Uh, I would like to speak with my, uh, legal counsel. I'm hoping for a fellow in Utah named Doug Terry… I think his office is closed for the night." Coleman's date argument rests on that phrase: an office "closed for the night" reads as a Thursday evening (Sept 11), where a Friday-evening reading (Sept 12) would more naturally be "closed for the weekend."

  • Bates R1 vs R2 (researcher claim) — Analysts note 003996-R1 appears near the ~6m50s mark of the same WCSO source while R2 sits at 3h36m53s. Coleman-amplified commentary argues discovery Bates rules treat those as revised excerpts of one continuous recording, not multi-day splices across counties. Attribution only.

  • 6:26 PM onward (inference) — Researchers add that the filing's phrasing suggests Robinson had spoken with his parents very recently ("my folks are trying to get a hold of him"), which they argue is hard to square with someone who had by then been in custody for close to 24 hours.

  • ~6:30 PM (inference) — Because the booking sheet lists Brian Davis as arresting officer at 10:00 PM in Washington County, and the drive from Utah County runs roughly 3.25–4 hours, Coleman reasons Davis must have departed around 6:30 PM — before the 8:02 PM call that officially triggered the surrender. That is the arrest-time discrepancy.

  • Phone seizure — two competing clocks — Version A (citizen): Washington County practice takes a phone at intake; if Robinson was in the room by ~6:25–7:00 PM (or earlier per reverse math / family claim), nothing could have been sent from the handset at 7:57 PM. Version B (Davis-testimony summaries circulated online, e.g. @grok recaps): WCSO confiscated the phone after the ~9–10 PM walk-in, before state/federal agents arrived — which would leave a 7:57 handset post possible under the official arrival story. Either way, a Discord account can be reached from any device or account-holder, which is why the Discord evidence in court turns on server-side records rather than the phone alone. A timed property receipt has not been released.

Evening, September 11​

  • ~7:00 PM (family-confirmation claim) — Per a viral @DiligentDenizen clip (May 2026), a family source is said to place arrival around 7 PM with the phone taken immediately. If true under Version A phone practice, the 7:57 Discord cannot be from that handset.

  • 7:55 PM — Per an AP-based timeline circulated by researchers, the FBI stated publicly it was seeking a "person of interest" and released the hat, sunglasses, long-sleeve black shirt and backpack photo series alongside video of a figure crossing the roof and walking off campus — see the Black Clothing Photo analysis.

  • 7:57 PM — full attributed Discord text — Charging-narrative quotes republished by The American Prospect and Northeastern coverage attribute to account zealous_monkey_55095 (often misspelled zealous_moneky_55095 in secondary posts) roughly: "it was me at UVU yesterday. Im sorry for all of this. im surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments. thanks for all the good times and laughs…" Account control is disputed; Robinson is charged, not convicted.   • Clock hygiene — 7:57 vs 8:57 — Some secondary posts and auto-summaries list the Discord confession at 8:57 PM rather than 7:57 PM. Prefer primary warrant / affidavit / Prospect-aligned sequencing; treat 8:57 as literature drift unless a primary docket clock surfaces.

  • 7:57 PM → 8:02 PM (five minutes) — Citizen and press reconstructions (including Prospect) treat Brooksby's tip call as landing about five minutes after the Discord post. That micro-sequence is why a Sept 11 6:25 PM Miranda stamp, if correct, inverts the "confession → tip → surrender" story. Early Sept 15–17 2025 media (e.g. @GuntherEagleman) instead sold the Discord post as a confession ~2 hours before turn-in — the order later inverted for many researchers by the defense Bates filing.

  • ~8:00 PM (prelim-summary claim) — Court-day accounts circulating on X (e.g. @_0HOUR1, July 2026) say Robinson messaged Lance Twiggs about laundry, believed police were watching the home, cried while confessing, and said he would talk to his parents and turn himself in. Attribute to hearing summaries, not as adjudicated fact. Replies to custody-clock graphics also ask whether Twiggs had account access to the Discord handle — an open authorship question, not a finding, and one that runs through Lance Twiggs' phone.

  • 7:58–8:00 PM — A press conference convenes in Utah County. Reported attendees include Governor Spencer Cox, Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson, FBI Director Kash Patel, Deputy Director Dan Bongino, Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith, and Salt Lake City SAC Robert Bohls — the announcement sequence is broken out on the Kash Patel manhunt timeline.

  • 8:02 PM — Washington County Sheriff Nate Brooksby reportedly receives a call from a retired deputy — identified in commentary as Scott Messinger — saying he knows the shooter's identity and is working with the family; examined at Miranda vs Brooksby's account.

  • 8:04 PM — Brooksby reportedly calls Sheriff Mike Smith to relay it. Researchers note Smith was at that minute standing at the Utah County press conference and question how the call fits the room.

  • ~9:00 PM (official account) — Per AP-based reporting, Robinson turns himself in with his parents at the Washington County Sheriff's Office. This is the arrival time the citizen reconstruction disputes — and the start of Version B phone-seizure timing if Davis-testimony summaries are accurate.

  • 9:23 PM (derived) — Working backwards from the later "33-hour manhunt" framing gives a 9:23 PM capture moment, three hours after the disputed 6:25 PM exhibit timestamp.

  • 10:00 PM — The Utah County inmate booking sheet and probable cause statement records Arrest Date 09/11/2025 10:00 PM, arresting officer Brian Davis, arrest agency "Other," with aggravated murder, obstruction of justice and felony discharge counts. This is the police computer system entry at the center of Utah County jail custody.

  • 10:26 PM (2226 hours) — A separate document states Robinson "arrived at the Washington County Sheriff's Office accompanied by his parents at approximately 2226 hours" — a third arrival time that reconciles with neither the ~9:00 PM account nor the ~6:00 PM / ~7:00 PM claims.

Overnight into September 12​

  • 01:58 AM, Sept 12 — The booking record shows Date In 09/12/2025 01:58 AM, consistent with a multi-hour transport north.

  • ~2:00 AM, Sept 12 — Custody reportedly passes to lead state and federal investigators. The Washington County Sheriff's Office has stated it did not interview or question Robinson, which leaves the location of any formal interrogation unresolved on the public record.

  • 4:00 AM, Sept 12 — The Affidavit of Probable Cause is completed and reviewed. The state treats this as the formal arrest time; researchers treat it instead as the moment paperwork caught up with a custody that had begun much earlier. The aftermath that keeps the dispute alive​

  • Sept 12, ~6:00 AM — President Donald Trump announces publicly that a suspect is in hand.

  • Sept 12, 7:00–7:30 AM — Kash Patel describes a "33-hour manhunt." Counting from 12:23 PM September 10, 33 hours reaches 9:23 PM September 11; counting to the 6:25 PM exhibit timestamp gives roughly 30 hours. The 30-versus-33 gap is the arithmetic form of this whole page.

  • Sept 17 — Brooksby holds a press conference reaffirming the 33-hour framing and the 8:02 and 8:04 PM calls, per researcher compilations of the press conferences and statements.

  • Later (GRAMA appeal) — In a public-records appeal between Scripps News and Washington County, a county representative reportedly stated "There was a search made for body cam footage and there was none," while lobby CCTV of the surrender was described as no longer retained — the bodycam / GRAMA no-footage record.

  • March 27, 2026 — Sheriff Nate Brooksby resigns without a stated explanation. No official connection to this timeline dispute has been established; see Brooksby resignation.
