Roof Jumping Timeline (September 10, 2025, Claims)
:::caution Charged, not convicted Tyler Robinson is charged, not convicted. Everything below describes what the probable-cause affidavit, campus surveillance summaries and citizen compilations allege about the roof sequence. No court has adjudicated any of it, and this page takes no position on his guilt. :::
The roof now has its own section: Roof — including the roof-only timeline, the tactical roof run measurements, the screwdriver and crime-scene-tape dispute, and the line-of-sight question.
This timeline covers one narrow layer: the alleged ascent to the roof of the Losee Center, the firing position, and the drop off the roof afterward — and the feasibility arguments citizen investigators raise against it. If you want the whole day, use September 10, 2025; if you want what happened after the accused left campus, use Post-Shot Escape. This page is about the roof and only the roof.
The Timeline
All times are Mountain Daylight Time (MDT/MT), the Utah clock. Times through 12:24 are drawn from the affidavit-derived movement summary and the campus surveillance compilation on this site.
Morning approach (camera sightings)
-
8:23 AM MDT — A neighborhood WYZE camera reportedly captures a vehicle driving on W 880 S, per the doorbell-and-camera compilation on Tyler on Surveillance Cameras and WYZE footage.
-
8:29 AM MDT — UVU campus surveillance logs a gray Dodge Challenger arriving on campus; the summary describes a plain maroon T-shirt, light shorts, light shoes and a black hat with a white logo, no backpack. Investigators note that the official account never states when that vehicle left the lot — see Gun Dropped Location and the pre-shot campus movements timeline.
-
9:57 AM MDT — A WYZE camera reportedly records a person walking on W 880 S. Between this sighting and the next, the compilation places a clothing change into jeans and a long-sleeve shirt (Clothing Change and Robinson's clothing changes that day).
-
11:44 AM MDT — A Ring camera reportedly records a person walking on W 800 S (Ring footage).
-
11:49 AM MDT — A Ring camera records a person walking on S 800 W back toward campus, now in a black long-sleeve shirt with a US flag and eagle, dark jeans, dark hat, large sunglasses, and a dark backpack. Citizen researchers point out that the backpack appears and disappears between adjacent entries in the official summary — see Backpack Rifle Impossibility.
Ascent to the roof
-
11:50 AM MDT — Seen walking in a grassy area north of Campus Drive near 800 West, walking with a limp (stiff right leg, limited bending), heading south through a parking lot toward a pedestrian tunnel.
-
11:52 AM MDT — Movement tracked through stairwells and up to the roof of the Losee Center, roughly 150 yards from the courtyard.
-
11:53 AM MDT — Paused at the top of stairs, pulled out a cell phone, put it back, then descended into the pedestrian tunnel and ascended a stairwell in the adjacent parking garage. That phone moment is why the cell tower and phone data timeline matters here: a device visibly in hand is a device that should have left records.
-
~11:55 AM MDT (citizen frame analysis) — Gray Hughes–style compilations and warrant timelines shared on X (e.g. @MsJaneDoeUKnow) claim a waistband bulge while the figure ascends parking-structure stairs en route to the Losee Center — presented as consistent with a concealed long object. A bulge in stills is not proof of a rifle in pants, and feasibility critics ask how a pant-leg rifle would climb stairs at all (viral @I_Am_JohnCullen thread, Sept 12).
-
12:02 PM MDT — Walking on the north side of the Losee Center, still limping, entering the building through the southeast corner doors. The stairwell images from this window are the ones later released in "enhanced" form — see Stairs Guy Identity Gap, Stairs Guy vs Tyler Robinson, and Enhanced Photos After Custody.
-
12:15 PM MDT — Ascended stairs beside the building, crossed a railing from a public walkway onto the roof, ran across it, and crawled into a shooting position. Citizen route maps (e.g. former-student reconstructions amplified by @ProjectConstitu / @chuckkeeler) stress how open and low the railing access is — a security-gap point, not an identity proof.
-
12:17 PM MDT — Climbed over a short wall and crouched on the north side of the roof.
-
12:22 PM MDT — Stood, ran west, scooted near the edge — the limp no longer noticeable — and lay down facing the courtyard, roughly 430 feet (≈130 m / ~142–175 yards in various public sources) from the stage. The disappearing limp is one of the most-cited discontinuities in the sequence.
The shot and the drop
-
12:23:00 PM MDT — A single shot is fired from the roof, per the affidavit summary. Competing public clocks include 12:23:30 (site standard impact), 12:23:27 (multi-angle citizen log), 12:27 PM (some media compilations), and an early circulating graphic with 12:20 shot / 12:23 jump (@MJTruthUltra). Full conflict table: Shooting Time Disputes and The Shot Time: 12:23 or 12:27?.
-
12:23:30 PM MDT — The timestamp used across this site as the exact moment of impact (minute-by-minute reconstruction).
-
12:23:29 – 12:23:54 PM MDT — Surveillance stills published by Gray Hughes Investigates are said to show movement from the shooting position to the northeast corner of the Losee Center in about 25 seconds, traced across four frames (12:23:29, 12:23:34, 12:23:45, 12:23:54). This is the tightest published sequence for the egress and is the anchor for most feasibility argument on both sides — see UVU Surveillance.
-
12:24 PM MDT — Per the summary: a dark-colored item (a rifle wrapped in a dark towel) is placed on the rooftop, the figure lowers himself onto the grass below, and runs north toward the parking lot east of the Losee Center. Commentary widely describes this as a roof "jump" of roughly 20 feet; public recirculations often say "dangled" / "2nd story" (e.g. @ianmiles); the affidavit language is lowered himself, not jumped — the acts are not the same and the site distinguishes them. Hearing-era commentary also notes that released flight/jump footage does not clearly show a long gun in frame during the drop, so towel/rifle placement still depends on recovery location and other forensics.
-
12:24+ PM MDT — Seen running north across Campus Drive carrying an item, crossing a grassy area and into wooded ground north of campus. A shoe impression consistent with Converse-type sneakers is reported. A Mauser Model 98 .30-06 bolt-action rifle with scope was later recovered in that wooded area — see Mauser .30-06 Rifle, Gun Discovery Sequence, and Mauser Rifle Chain of Custody.
After the roof
-
Sept 10, 12:26 PM MDT — Per police audio cited in the file, the first report of the shooting comes in — three minutes after the affidavit's shot time, which some researchers treat as ordinary dispatch lag and others read as a gap. See Dispatch & Radio Scanner Timeline.
-
Sept 10, 6:38 PM MDT — CCTV at an Orem Dairy Queen reportedly captures the accused about six hours after the shooting, back in what the summary describes as his morning clothing (maroon shirt and cap) — a second clothing change that the roof narrative has to accommodate. See Merchant and Travel CCTV and Dairy Queen — Orem.
-
Sept 11, 2025 — evening into night — The surrender and custody chain begins, which is a separate sequence from the roof narrative and is covered on Sept 8–13 and Custody, Surrender & Mirandizing.
-
Sept 11, 2025 — 7:17 PM Central (reported) — A second set of stairwell photos was released to the public. Baron Coleman argues the accused was already in custody at that moment, and asks why photos would be released to help find someone already caught. Kash Patel separately described the images as "enhanced" on Fox News — see Enhanced Suspect Photos. Both points bear on the roof narrative because those images are what fixes the roof figure's identity in the public mind.
-
July 2026 (preliminary hearing reports) — Courtroom coverage amplified by @TPostMillennial / Jack Posobiec and others says prosecutors played surveillance of a prone rooftop position and shot sequence at the preliminary hearing. Defense and some observers still dispute resolution and face-ID quality; bind-over status and what the public may see remain separate from what the courtroom saw. Dueling summaries also circulate about whether any clip shows the shot itself versus only approach and flight.
-
April 18, 2026 (counterweight, reported) — Commentators defending the official account (e.g. @AGHamilton29, ~1.5k likes) argue the UVU camera set captures the accused making his way to the rooftop and call the cumulative evidence overwhelming against alternative-origin theories. That view is on the record alongside the feasibility critiques above; neither has been tested by a verdict.
-
Undated, later — The FBI's account holds that Robinson's father, Matt Robinson, recognized his son from video of the figure dropping off the roof. Critics respond that the figure in the released frame is so small it could be mistaken for an insect, and that a parent could not identify anyone from it without having been shown the enhanced stills first. This is a dispute about image quality, not a claim that anyone lied.
Conflicts and Disputed Points
| Point | One version | The competing version |
|---|---|---|
| Shot time | 12:23 PM MDT (12:23:30 impact) — affidavit summary and this site's standard | 12:23:27, 12:27, early 12:20 shot / 12:23 jump graphic (details) |
| Roof exit | "Lowered himself onto the grass" — affidavit; "dangled / 2nd story" public framing | "Jumped from a ~20 ft roof" — media and commentary shorthand |
| Rifle in jump frame | Recovery + towel placement sequence supports roof rifle | Hearing commentary: flight footage does not clearly show a long gun during the drop |
| The limp | Present at 11:50 AM and 12:02 PM, gone by 12:22 PM — same summary, same person | Early Sept 11 posts said limp was caused by the jump — opposite causal order from the affidavit sequence |
| Pant-leg rifle vs stairs | Limp as rifle down pant leg (early media theory) | Stair climb + stairwell photos that do not show a rifle (Cullen feasibility challenge) |
| Egress speed | ~25 seconds from firing position to NE corner — Gray Hughes frame analysis | Feasibility critics argue the run, the rifle placement and the drop cannot all fit that window |
| Video quality | Released roof-jump video is what the FBI had; prelim court played enhanced sequence | Critics call public release "1973 VHS quality" on a campus with HD coverage (selective 4K release) |
| Arrest location | Some early media stubs implied an at-scene apprehension | Later accounts place the arrest in Washington County on Sept 11, hundreds of miles south (arrest and booking) |
| Whether the shot came from the roof at all | The official accusation timeline | Tent, van and close-range theories (Close-Range Theories, Van Man) |
Open Questions
- Have the physical roof-edge heights and drop zones at the Losee Center ever been measured independently and published?
- Is there continuous camera coverage of the alleged drop itself — one unbroken clip, not four stills — and if so, why has it not been released with authenticated timecodes?
- Does any released footage show the rifle being placed on the roof and later being carried into the woods, or is that inferred from the recovery location?
- Why does the limp appear at 11:50 AM and 12:02 PM and vanish at 12:22 PM, and does any single continuous clip cover that transition?
- If the accused's phone was visibly in hand at 11:53 AM, what do the carrier records show for the roof window — and why have they not been produced? (phone data timeline)
- What is the chain of custody for the recovered Mauser between 12:24 PM Sept 10 and its logging into evidence?
Laws (Charlie Kirk)
The unreleased UVU rooftop and traffic camera footage with authenticated timecodes and chain-of-custody logs, the continuous clip covering the alleged roof drop rather than selected stills, the synchronized chain-of-custody timeline for the recovered Mauser rifle, the original unenhanced stairwell images alongside whatever process produced the "enhanced" versions, and the remotely wiped witness phone videos from the scene are things the Charlie Kirk Investigation Laws may result in powerful truths coming out that aren't out yet.
