10 Minutes Before the Shot (12:13–12:23 PM MDT)

This page covers only the last ten minutes: 12:13 to 12:23 PM MDT on September 10, 2025, in the UVU courtyard. Setting the Scene (immediately before the window)​

  • ~11:47 AM MDT — The US Army-contracted Bombardier Global 6500 N1098L reportedly descended to roughly 600 ft AGL near Utah Lake, about two miles from campus, in the first of two low passes tracked that day — the full chronology is on the N1098L plane activity timeline, the N1098L spy plane profile and N1098L HADES over UVU.

  • ~11:50–12:02 PM MDT — Per the Affidavit of Probable Cause, a "Suspect" in a black long-sleeve shirt printed with an eagle and flag was tracked by UVU surveillance cameras across a grassy area, through a pedestrian tunnel, and then into the Losee Center through the southeast doors; the earlier campus movement is on the pre-shot campus timeline. Hearing-era prosecutor video path summaries add a campus food stop (Chick-fil-A) and clothing change before the stairwell ascent placed at ~12:15 — still the State's identification claim against a charged, not convicted, defendant.

  • ~12:00–12:13 PM MDT — Kirk was already seated under the white canopy facing east, taking audience questions in the "Prove Me Wrong" format before hundreds of people, with no counter-sniper coverage on the surrounding rooftops according to security-posture analysis.

The Timeline: 12:13–12:23 PM MDT​

12:13–12:16 PM — Stage, mic, and the last calm minutes​

  • ~12:13 PM MDT — Kirk was speaking into a handheld microphone while a second, wireless body mic sat under his white T-shirt — a placement researchers question because the unit carried a furry windscreen of the type normally worn outside a shirt, discussed on the RØDE Wireless PRO page, the RØDE mic hardware profile and the AV team and mic setup page.

  • ~12:13 PM MDT — The master investigation file attributes that under-shirt placement to TPUSA A/V staffer Phillip Goldsberry Jr; no wrongdoing has been established against him and none is alleged here, and the open question is simply why the standard outside-the-shirt placement was not used — a question that feeds the exploding-mic line of inquiry.

  • ~12:13 PM MDT — Broadcast and production cameras were live from fixed and monopod positions around the tent, including the Canon XA55 rig whose audio track later became central to the three-boom acoustic analysis, alongside the TPUSA production footage that has never been released in full.

  • ~12:14 PM MDT — The canopy structure, a concrete pillar behind it, and stacked equipment created sight-line blocks that close-range theorists argue could have concealed a shooter inside or immediately behind the tent; the tent geometry is mapped on The Tent and in the Tent section.

  • ~12:15 PM MDT — Per the affidavit, the Suspect "walked up the stairs that lead to the common area adjacent to the Losee Center building" and approached a short concrete wall separating that area from the roof; whether the person in the released stairwell stills is the charged defendant remains disputed on Stairs Guy vs Tyler Robinson.

  • ~12:15 PM MDT — Reporting recorded in the master file states investigators "don't even have any footage that explains how exactly the rifle got onto the roof," even though the charging narrative places the Suspect on that roof at 12:15 — the gap the backpack and rifle feasibility argument turns on.

  • ~12:16 PM MDT — UVU campus police and the contracted detail had no aerial overwatch; UVU has said no drones were authorized, which is weighed against citizen video of objects overhead on UVU Security & No Drones.

12:17–12:21 PM — The silent rooftop interval​

  • ~12:17 PM MDT — The affidavit states the Suspect "climbed over the short wall and appeared to crouch down on the north side of the wall on the rooftop," beginning a roughly five-minute period the document does not otherwise describe — see the Losee Center rooftop page.

  • ~12:17–12:22 PM MDT — There is no entry at all in the affidavit narrative for these five minutes, a silence researchers on Proof Not Tyler argue is exactly where a clothing change, a second person, or a weapon hand-off could sit without appearing in the record; the clothing-change question is examined on Clothing Change & Agent David Hull.

  • ~12:17–12:22 PM MDT (hearing-era claim — assemble weapon) — Public commentary on non-public enhanced courthouse surveillance (Jack Posobiec as relayed by Andrew Kolvet, ~July 2026) asserts a figure on the Losee roof can be seen assembling a weapon and moving into a prone position aligned with ~12:23:28. The enhanced clip has not been released to the public; treat as secondhand description of sealed/courthouse video that, if accurate, would fill the affidavit's five-minute silence with a specific sequence the charging document never writes.

  • ~12:18 PM MDT — Separately, citizen frame analysis reports an all-black prone figure on a roof line that analysts say is distinct from the person the state identifies; that competing figure is tracked on Black Clothing Suspect, with candidate firing positions on Possible Shooter Locations.

  • ~12:19 PM MDT — Kirk continued taking questions from a line of students; the questioner at the moment of the shot, Hunter Kozak, was already at the front, and his later media appearances are reviewed on Hunter Kozak.

  • ~12:20 PM MDT — Staffing around the canopy was thin relative to crowd size, with perimeter and credential gaps documented on Perimeter & Rooftop Failures and Screening & Credential Gaps; the detail was run under private contract, per Dan Flood — Head of Security.

  • ~12:21 PM MDT — The Losee Center roof line stood roughly 430 feet (130 m) east of the canopy with an unobstructed view of Kirk's chair — the geometry the state relies on, and which trajectory and wound analysis disputes.

  • ~12:21 PM MDT — Utah political figure Phil Lyman was inside the Losee Center building, according to accounts compiled in the master file; he became the first person on camera afterward to state a direction for the shot, which is why his position in this window is tracked at all.

12:22–12:23 PM — The final ninety seconds​

  • ~12:22 PM MDT — Per the affidavit the Suspect "stood up and started running across the rooftop," and — in a detail the document itself flags — "the notable limp from previous surveillance was absent"; the limp discontinuity is central to the camera-sightings analysis.

  • ~12:22 PM MDT — The same paragraph also places the Suspect scooting to the west edge and lying "in a position consistent with a prone shooting position," assigning two distinct sequences to the same approximate minute — a compression citizen timelines treat as a red flag rather than a clerical artifact. Hearing summaries of Utah SBI investigator Agent David Hull place a person the State identifies as the charged defendant crawling to the northeast corner and lying prone with line of sight to the canopy; the State later cited shoe impressions and scuffs at that corner as corroboration.

  • ~12:22 PM MDT — Camera operators were framing Kirk from the west and southwest; which way each lens pointed matters because at least one operator is described as turning toward the tent rather than toward the Losee Center after the shot, discussed on Eyewitness Mobile Video.

  • ~12:22:30 PM MDT — Kirk was mid-answer on a question about mass shootings; the exchange and the surrounding protective posture are described on Day of Security and in the September 10, 2025 day-of timeline.

  • 12:23:00 PM MDT — The affidavit says only: "At approximately 1223 hours, Charlie Kirk was shot." No sub-minute time appears anywhere in the charging document.

  • 12:23:00–12:23:30 PM MDT (sub-second stamps) — Citizen reconstructions place the shot at 12:23:30; hearing-era commentary (Kolvet open letter / Posobiec relay) often uses 12:23:28; early "FBI subject timeline" graphics circulated by @MJTruthUltra on Sept 12, 2025 used 12:20 shot / 12:23 jump stamps that disagree with later dominant clocks; several media compilations still use 12:27 PM.   • 12:23 PM MDT — evidentiary limit stated in court — In open court, when asked whether any footage shows the shooting from the roof, hearing coverage reports the answer was that there is not. Positioning and timing remain the State's case; the trigger pull itself is not on the public record as video. Items later recovered and tied by the State to pre-shot roof use (including a red-and-black screwdriver noted by Officer Chris Bagley, whose body camera reportedly died on the roof) are discussed on 10 Minutes After the Shot.

  • Mic state at the wound boundary (citizen claim) — Slow-motion analyses claim the shirt / wireless-mic area moves or "puffs" at the wound instant — the core timed observation behind exploding-mic theories (RØDE Wireless PRO, Mic Investigation Index). Medical examiner materials cited by TPUSA-side communicators describe a gunshot wound with recovered fragments. Both belong as a final-second dispute, not as resolved fact.

  • 12:23 PM MDT and after — Everything from this instant forward — Kirk's movement, the SUV, the rooftop descent, and the first dispatch traffic — belongs to 10 Minutes After the Shot and Tyler Robinson Post-Shot Escape.

Tyler Robinson has been charged, not convicted. Every affidavit assertion on this page is an allegation by the State of Utah that has not been tested at trial, and the affidavit itself prefixes each of these times with "approximately."

Open Questions​

  1. Why was the wireless microphone placed under Kirk's shirt on September 10 when the same rig with the same windscreen was reportedly worn outside the shirt at comparable outdoor events?
  2. What happened between 12:17 and 12:22 that the affidavit narrative does not describe at all?
  3. Does continuous, authenticated, timecoded rooftop video covering 12:13–12:23 exist, or only the discrete stills that have been released?
  4. How did a rifle reach the roof, and why does the master file record investigators saying no footage explains it?
  5. Which cameras — broadcast, monopod, phone, and campus — were rolling at 12:22, and where are their unedited original files now?
  6. Why was there no counter-sniper or rooftop overwatch on a building with a clear 430-foot line to the speaker?

The unreleased continuous UVU rooftop and courtyard surveillance video for 12:13–12:23 PM with authenticated timecodes, the complete TPUSA production and A/V recordings including the wireless microphone's own high-resolution audio track, the written security plan and staffing roster for the event, and the FBI and State Bureau of Investigation working notes explaining how the rifle is believed to have reached the roof are things the Charlie Kirk Investigation Laws may result in powerful truths coming out that aren't out yet.
