Tyler Robinson: Post-Shot Escape & Flight Timeline

This page traces the alleged path of Tyler Robinson from the second the shot was fired at 12:23:30 PM MDT on September 10, 2025 to the moment he sat down in a Washington County interview room roughly 30 to 33 hours later. Robinson is the charged defendant in State of Utah v. Tyler Alexander Robinson — he has not been convicted, and every movement below is an allegation drawn from charging documents, testimony, press reporting, or citizen research, not a proven fact. The escape leg is where the official account is thinnest: there is a documented arrival time on campus but no publicly stated departure time from the parking lot, and two separate evening sightings that citizen investigators say cannot both be true.

The Timeline​

12:23–12:30 PM MDT — Off the roof​

  • 12:23:30 PM MDT — The single shot is fired from the Losee Center rooftop toward the courtyard roughly 430 feet away; the crowd-side seconds are reconstructed on the 10 Minutes After the Shot page and the shot-time dispute itself on 12:23 vs 12:27.

  • 12:23:29–12:23:54 PM MDT — Citizen analyst Gray Hughes published four surveillance stills he says track the shooter from the firing position to the northeast corner of the Losee Center in about 25 seconds; the timestamps are legible on the frames he circulated, but the underlying footage has not been publicly released with authenticated chain of custody (UVU HD footage withheld).

  • 12:24 PM MDT (alleged) — Charging-document summaries state the suspect placed a dark-colored item — the rifle wrapped in a dark towel — on the rooftop, lowered himself onto the grass below, and ran north; the drop height and feasibility are argued on the Roof Jumping Timeline and the towel detail on The Rifle Wrapped in a Towel.

  • 12:24 PM MDT (competing account) — Early police dispatch traffic that day described a suspect in all black with a black mask and a long gun, not the jeans-and-T-shirt figure in the released stills; the divergence is tracked on the Dispatch and Scanner Timeline and on Black-Clad Rooftop Suspect Dropped From the Narrative.

  • ~12:25 PM MDT (alleged) — The suspect is described running north across Campus Drive toward the parking lot east of the Losee Center, "appearing to carry an item," then crossing a grassy tree line at the campus edge (Tyler on Surveillance Cameras).

  • ~12:26 PM MDT (alleged) — He is said to have fled into the wooded area north of campus, leaving a shoe impression consistent with Converse / Chuck Taylor sneakers (Wooded Area — Gun Recovery, Gun Dropped Location).

  • 12:26 PM MDT — Per police audio, the first report of the shooting comes in — three minutes after the shot, a gap examined on Three Minutes to the First Police Report.

12:30 PM – 6:00 PM MDT — The unaccounted hours​

  • Afternoon, exact time unknown — Construction workers at the site near 785 College Drive reported encountering a man dressed entirely in black whom they suspected was the gunman; when police showed them a photo, the crew said it was not the person they had met (The All-Black Man the Construction Worker Met, Construction Site — 785 College Dr).

  • Departure from campus — no public time — Surveillance reportedly places the gray Dodge Challenger parking on campus at 8:29 AM, but no official statement gives the minute it left. Citizen investigator @MuppetMasher framed this directly: police "never mentioned when he was seen leaving that parking lot," despite phone-location tooling that should settle it (Rental Cars and Vehicle Movements, Cell Tower and Phone Data).

  • Later on Sept 10 (alleged, contested) — Messages later attributed to the Lance Twiggs phone describe waiting for officers to leave the wooded area, a midnight encounter with an officer, and a Challenger parked in front of a neighboring house — the same texts a competing alibi claim says are irreconcilable with a restaurant receipt (Tyler Robinson Discord Messages, Lance Twiggs' Phone).

6:38 PM – 9:47 PM MDT — Two evening sightings that fight each other​

  • 6:38 PM MDT — Candace Owens (@RealCandaceO) released a previously unseen still she said shows Robinson at the Dairy Queen at 813 E 800 N in Orem, about a 17-minute drive from campus, calm and in a maroon shirt, jeans, hat and sunglasses (Dairy Queen — Orem, Merchant and Travel CCTV). Viral posts (e.g. @SpencerHakimian, tens of millions of views) misread the still as roughly 17 minutes after the shot (~12:38 PM); Community Notes and Owens' own presentation place the still at 6:38 PM, not 12:38.

  • Hat continuity claim (citizen) — Commentators including @QShadowWalker note a white-logo Hurley hat that they say appears in campus stills, the Dairy Queen image, and surrender clothing descriptions. Treat as a clothing-continuity inference, not identity proof; Robinson is charged, not convicted.

  • 8:55 PM (order) and 9:47 PM (payment) — Panguitch claim — A circulated photograph of Cowboy's Smokehouse Check #211 shows a sirloin dinner ordered at 8:55 PM and paid by Visa debit at 9:47 PM on 9/10/25 (Cowboy's Smokehouse Receipt). Citizen investigators including @DiligentDenizen, @ProjectConstitu, and @HustleBitch_ place the restaurant in Panguitch, Utah — commonly cited as roughly ~209 miles / ~2h49m–3h+ from Orem/UVU. Staff interviewed on site (~July 11, 2026, per DiligentDenizen) have been quoted claiming high-confidence identification of a calm lone diner matching Robinson, that the party tipped the FBI, and that neither state nor defense had contacted them. The receipt remains unauthenticated in court: no adjudicated card match or customer identity.

  • Owner vs staff (claimed, July 2026) — In the same on-site visit, the restaurant owner was quoted as saying that as far as he knows it was not Robinson (he was not present that night), while an interviewed employee claimed 100% certainty. The owner reportedly offered the receipt as "the ticket in question" and said cameras were not working that night. Attribute staff and owner separately; none of this has been adjudicated.

  • Both cannot be casually true — A 6:38 PM Orem still and an 8:55 PM Panguitch order leave only about 2 hours 17 minutes of travel window against a commonly cited ~3-hour drive. Citizen researchers treat that as an impossible dual-sighting unless one (or both) of the evening anchors is wrong or mis-attributed.

  • Midnight Twiggs-phone texts vs Panguitch — Messages later attributed to the Lance Twiggs phone describe waiting for officers to clear the wooded area near UVU around midnight Sept 10–11. If the charged defendant were dining in Panguitch until ~10 PM, citizen math puts the earliest UVU-area return near ~12:47 AM — a clock clash researchers flag against any local-presence reading of those texts (argument, not adjudicated fact).

  • Merchant aftermath (claimed) — Citizen researchers including George Webb and Project Constitution material have claimed the Orem Dairy Queen was later closed and gutted, relevant to whether merchant CCTV along the route remains available — business-closure reasons unknown; no crime assertion.

Overnight Sept 10–11 — Southbound on I-15​

  • Overnight, Sept 10 into Sept 11 — The only major cross-state movement reported is the drive south from Orem toward Washington County, roughly 250+ miles down I-15 (Tyler Robinson Travel). Some citizen compilations also note family-area claims near Panguitch as a possible overnight stop between dinner and Cedar City; those claims are unverified.

  • ~7:15–7:17 AM MDT, Sept 11 — Scripps News–reported surveillance captures the gray Dodge Challenger at the Maverik gas station in Cedar City; the figure pays at the pump, fuels, and drives away without approaching any trash cans, which investigators had been alerted to check for dumped evidence (Cedar City Maverik).

  • Morning–afternoon, Sept 11 — He continues to the St. George / Washington City area, where he had an apartment on S River Road and his parents lived nearby (Tyler Robinson Residences).

Sept 11 — The rifle and the search sequence​

Sept 11 evening — Arrival at the surrender location​

  • Afternoon–evening, Sept 11 (alleged) — Robinson's parents, having reportedly recognized him in circulated surveillance images, persuaded him to come to their Washington City home, where he expressed fear of a SWAT raid and of being shot at either the parents' house or his St. George apartment.

  • Evening, Sept 11 — The parents contacted a retired Washington County deputy — named in the probable-cause narrative as Mike Mitchell — who came to the home and helped arrange a peaceful surrender (Probable Cause Affidavit).

  • 6:25 PM MDT (defense filing) — A Bates-stamped video exhibit (003996-R2) records a Miranda warning being read to Robinson, with his reply asking for attorney Doug Terry and noting his office was "closed for the night." Attorney-commentator Baron Coleman argues the phrasing only fits a Thursday, September 11 reading in Washington County (6:25 PM Custody and the Discord Confession, Baron Coleman: Early Turn-In).

  • 7:55–7:58 PM MDT — The FBI publicly releases "person of interest" photos and rooftop video, and a Utah County press conference shows enhanced stairwell images; if the 6:25 PM Miranda reading is genuine, both happened after Robinson was already in a sheriff's office (Enhanced Suspect Photos, Kash Patel Press Briefings).

  • 7:57 PM MDT — The alleged Discord "confession" messages post — again after the disputed custody time (Discord and Custody Timeline, Discord Confession Timing).

  • 8:02 PM MDT (official) — Sheriff Nate Brooksby says he received the retired deputy's call; 8:04 PM, he says he called Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith — who was reportedly standing at the press conference at that moment (Washington County Sheriff and the Surrender, Utah County Sheriff — surrender coordination). Brooksby resigned in 2026; the reported reasons and the citizen speculation attached to them are on Sheriff Brooksby's resignation, and the clash between his account and the 6:25 PM exhibit is on Miranda at 6:25 PM versus Brooksby's account.

  • ~9:00 PM–10:26 PM MDT — Accounts of the actual arrival at the Washington County Sheriff's Office in Hurricane vary: "around 9 p.m." in wire reporting, 10:00 PM as the arrest time on the booking sheet, and approximately 2226 hours (10:26 PM) in the probable-cause narrative, which describes him arriving with his parents in a dark hat, maroon T-shirt, jeans, and white/gray Converse-style shoes — clothing the affidavit explicitly notes was not consistent with the surveillance clothing (Washington County Sheriff's Office).

  • 10:00 PM MDT — Utah State Bureau of Investigation agent Brian Davis is listed as the arresting officer. Because the drive from Utah County is 3.25–4 hours, researchers argue Davis must have departed near 6:30 PM — matching the 6:25 PM Miranda time, not the 8:04 PM phone call (Arrest and Booking Affidavit Timeline).

  • ~2:00 AM, Sept 12 — Federal and state investigators take formal custody at Hurricane and drive him north; the booking sheet records Date In 09/12/2025 01:58 AM at Utah County Jail in Spanish Fork (Tyler Robinson Surrender).

  • ~6:00–7:30 AM, Sept 12 — President Trump announces a suspect; FBI Director Kash Patel describes a "33-hour manhunt," which would place capture at 9:23 PM on Sept 11 — hours after the disputed 6:25 PM reading (Kash Patel Manhunt Timeline, Kash Patel press briefings).

  • 7:18 AM, Sept 12 — Probable cause is formally entered by Agent Davis, PC ID 189904 — the instrument analysed on the Affidavit of Probable Cause page. Formal charges, including a death-penalty notice, follow on September 16. Robinson remains charged, not convicted.

Open Questions​

  1. What minute did the gray Dodge Challenger leave the UVU parking lot on September 10, and what cell-site or license-plate-reader record establishes it?
  2. Does Check #211 truly belong to Cowboy's Smokehouse in Panguitch, what is the real drive time from Orem under that night's traffic, and does the debit card trace to Robinson — and will staff/owner accounts be tested under oath?
  3. Is there continuous, timestamped camera coverage of the roof descent and the run north, or only the stills that have been released?
  4. Who ordered the abandoned backpack, jacket and gloves recovered near the Fulton Library to stop being tested for DNA, and why could the testifying sergeant not recall? See standard forensic tests reportedly skipped and no GSR and missing physical tests.
  5. If Robinson was read Miranda at 6:25 PM, why were "person of interest" photos and rooftop video released to the public at 7:55 PM as if the suspect were still at large?
  6. Does the Washington County surrender video still exist, and if it does, why has it not been produced in discovery?
