Tyler Robinson: Pre-Shot UVU Campus Movements Timeline

This page covers only the morning of September 10, 2025, from the first reported doorbell-camera sighting at 8:07 AM MDT to the last pre-shot rooftop frame at 12:22 PM MDT. Everything after the shot — the roof exit, the flight into the woods, the evening sightings, the surrender — sits on the post-shot escape timeline. Tyler Robinson is charged, not convicted. Every sighting below is a figure that law enforcement and media have attributed to him, and several of those attributions are actively disputed.

Before the campus: neighborhood doorbell cameras​

  • 8:07 AM MDT — A Ring doorbell camera on S 800 W records a man walking toward campus in a maroon (or "plum") shirt and light-colored shorts with a black hat, per the reconstruction preserved in the master investigation file and cross-checked on the Ring doorbell camera page; a TMZ-sourced description of the same 8:07 frame adds a backpack and a black hat with a triangle logo, which the law-enforcement-referenced description of the 8:29 arrival does not mention.

  • 8:23 AM MDT — A WYZE camera on W 880 S records the figure driving, per the WYZE camera thread — meaning the man walking toward campus at 8:07 is in a vehicle sixteen minutes later, a transition no released footage covers.

  • 8:29 AM MDT — UVU surveillance records a gray Dodge Challenger arriving on campus, the time used in the probable-cause affidavit and repeated on the affidavit timeline page. Clothing described: plain maroon T-shirt, light shorts, light shoes, black hat with a white logo. No backpack is mentioned. July 2026 hearing coverage adds that investigators tracked the vehicle partly by distinctive wheels, not color alone — still a state attribution to the charged defendant, not a conviction.   • Morning campus loops + Chick-fil-A (hearing-presented) — In the July 2026 preliminary hearing, prosecutors played UVU surveillance they say shows the charged defendant moving about campus multiple times that morning — commentators covering the hearing (e.g. @Liz_Wheeler, @BlakeSNeff, @JackPosobiec) described roughly four visits / multi-loop scouting, including a stop at the on-campus Chick-fil-A before the clothing-change window and roof sequence (Salt Lake Tribune and related coverage of the video presentation). Citizen researchers have pressed for any merchant receipt or licence-plate-reader corroboration of that stop; none has been released publicly. See merchant and travel CCTV.

  • ~9:24 AM MDT (disputed) — A video circulated by @FaithDrivUr in July 2026 characterizes police as saying the suspect arrived on campus at 9:24 AM and went to the quad, where he made contact with TPUSA representatives — the claim tracked on the TPUSA–Tyler Robinson chat page and on the TPUSA internal timeline. This does not match the 8:29 AM arrival above; no TPUSA employee has been named, and no primary filing containing a 9:24 AM time has been located. The ordinary explanation — TPUSA staff were tabling and doing setup on the quad all morning, so a brief exchange is unremarkable — is the baseline this site records first. Citizen analysis (@AngelaBethMoore) separately notes that several named TPUSA travelers (e.g. Blake Neff, Danny Phillip, Nate Walker in that analysis) landing SLC ~9:23 could not yet be on campus for an 8:29–9:25 window, so any genuine early-morning contact would involve different staff — if the contact happened at all. Naming those travelers is a scheduling observation, not an accusation.

  • 9:57 AM MDT — The WYZE camera on W 880 S records the figure again, this time walking, still in the morning clothing. Between 8:29 and 9:57 there is no published account of when the Challenger left the parking lot, a gap also flagged on the camera-sightings timeline.

  • ~10:00–11:44 AM MDT — the unaccounted window — Roughly 105 minutes with no released camera frame, no published cell-site record, and no witness account. Citizen researchers treat this as the largest hole in the pre-shot chronology, and it is where the clothing change is presumed to have happened — the sequence agent Hull addressed on clothing change and Agent David Hull. Some online accounts claim cell-phone meta / geofence holdings exist that could fill the gap; no public cell-tower map has been released — see the cell tower and phone data timeline.

  • Disputed: the "9:00 AM doorbell" reading — Radio host and attorney Baron Coleman has publicly argued, from shadow analysis of the released doorbell frames, that the morning doorbell timeline does not sit where officials placed it. Those claims are tracked on the Baron Coleman timeline and on the Ring camera page; they are his stated analysis, not a court finding.

The return to campus​

  • 11:44 AM MDT — A Ring camera on W 800 S records a figure now in a black long-sleeve shirt with an American flag and eagle, dark jeans, a dark cap, large sunglasses, and a dark backpack — a complete change from the morning attire, per the clothing-change record and Tyler on surveillance cameras.

  • 11:49 AM MDT — A Ring camera on S 800 W records the figure walking toward campus again. The master file notes that a car reportedly belonging to Utah legislator Phil Lyman had been parked on that street since about 11:30 AM, placing an unrelated public figure's vehicle on the approach route — logged as a coincidence to be checked against the vehicle-movements timeline, not as an allegation about Lyman, who has not been accused of anything by any authority.

  • 11:50 AM MDT — The figure reappears in a grassy area north of Campus Drive near 800 West, walking with a pronounced limp (stiff right leg, limited bending), then moves south through a parking lot toward a pedestrian tunnel. The affidavit narration at this point records no backpack — one of the discrepancies driving the backpack-and-rifle impossibility argument.

  • 11:52 AM MDT — Movements are tracked through stairwells toward the roof of the Losee Center, roughly 150 yards from the courtyard where Charlie Kirk was speaking, per the September 10 page.

  • 11:53 AM MDT — The figure pauses at the top of a stairway, pulls out a cell phone, puts it back, descends into the pedestrian tunnel, and ascends a stairwell in the adjacent parking garage — the sequence that produced the contested stairwell stills discussed on the stairs-guy identity page and Tyler Robinson: Stairs Guy.

The stairwell stills and the identity dispute​

  • 11:53 AM frames — kit as described by law enforcement on the day — Converse-style sneakers, a blue mesh baseball cap, and a dark blue, full backpack, per the day-of description preserved in the master file and mapped on the UVU surveillance page.

  • The backpack-fullness argument — Citizen video reconstructions argue the man who left the Challenger carried a light blue pack roughly half empty, while the stairwell figure carries a different, near-full pack — and that swapping shorts for pants would leave a pack emptier, not fuller. That reasoning is developed on Stairs Guy and the backpack; it is an inference from compressed video, not an established finding.

  • The "enhanced" image problem — FBI Director Kash Patel described the released stairwell images as "enhanced," even though UVU operates a high-definition campus system. The tension between an enhanced grainy still and an unreleased native HD original runs through Enhanced Suspect Photos, Kash Patel's briefings, enhanced stairwell photos released after custody, and UVU HD footage withheld.

  • Camera-label discrepancy — @Sunny61120 (July 9, 2026) alleged that parking-garage frame labels flip between "level 2 NE" and "level 1 NE" on what appears to be the same stairwell. Clerical labeling slips are common and mundane; this is logged as a question for the UVU surveillance record and the campus security gaps page, not as proof of editing.

  • The rooftop clothing question — State investigating agent David Hull walked the July 2026 preliminary hearing through the campus video, including a rooftop clothing sequence that citizen investigators say received no public follow-up; see the Hull clothing-change page and Preliminary Hearing Day 2.

The approach to the roof​

  • 12:02 PM MDT — The figure is seen on the north side of the Losee Center, still limping, and enters the building through the southeast corner doors, per the affidavit narrative summarized on the September 10 page.

  • 12:15 PM MDT — Per agent Hull's July 2026 hearing testimony as reported, the figure rolls a public railing onto the Losee Center roof, then moves toward a corner prone position — the access route that anchors the perimeter and rooftop failure analysis, UVU campus security gaps and the UVU security and camera timeline. Hull reportedly acknowledged the roof angle is long-distance without clear facial features; coverage also states Judge Tony Graf limited some zoomed/enhanced versions while allowing the continuous long-distance track. Hearing exhibits recirculated July 2026 include never-before-public stairwell stills used to bridge the garage to the roof — see Preliminary Hearing Day 2.

  • 12:17 PM MDT — Climbs over a short wall and crouches on the north side of the roof.

  • 12:22 PM MDT — Stands, runs west, scoots near the roof edge — the limp is no longer visible — and lies down facing the courtyard, roughly 430 feet (130 m) from the stage. The disappearing limp is examined on the roof-run limp page. Hearing coverage describes a stiff right-leg limp on the late morning return as consistent with something constraining the leg — state theory, not a conviction.

  • 12:23 PM MDT — end of this page's scope. The shot, the rifle-and-towel placement, and the roof exit are covered on the minute-by-minute reconstruction, the shooting-time dispute, the roof-jumping timeline, and the post-shot escape timeline. Open Questions​

  1. When did the gray Dodge Challenger leave the parking lot, and which camera covers that moment? No public document states it.
  2. Where was the subject between roughly 10:00 AM and 11:44 AM — the 105-minute window in which the clothing change is presumed to have occurred — and does any Chick-fil-A merchant receipt or campus POS record corroborate the hearing video stop?
  3. Do cell-site records for the phone visible at 11:53 AM match the camera track, and why has no cell-tower map been released? See the cell tower and phone data timeline.
  4. Who were the TPUSA representatives in the quad-contact claim, and does UVU or TPUSA production footage of that exchange exist — given travel constraints that rule out several named staff before ~10:15 AM?
  5. Is there a continuous camera handoff from the parking-garage stairwell to the Losee Center roof, or are there cuts between angles that no released exhibit bridges?
  6. Did the rifle enter campus with the subject at all — and if so, on which frame is it visible? See the gun discovery sequence.

Laws (Charlie Kirk)​

  • The original UVU DVR exports with embedded per-frame timestamps for the 8:07 AM through 12:22 PM window, the parking-lot departure footage that was never released, the cell-site records covering the 105-minute morning gap, the unredacted camera-location labels on the parking-garage stairwell frames, and any TPUSA or UVU footage of the alleged quad contact are things that the Charlie Kirk Investigation Laws may result in powerful truths coming out that aren't out yet.
