Ballistics and Surveillance Claims

Investigators disagree about where the fatal shot originated, what weapon was used, and what aerial surveillance was active at UVU on September 10, 2025. This page separates the prosecution narrative from alternative technical claims.

Underneath the technical argument sits the threshold question of how Charlie Kirk was killed at all: citizen investigation on X has concluded by large majority that an explosive device caused the wound, and treats the rifle account below as the government's version rather than the settled one.

Official Ballistics Narrative (Prosecution)

According to charges and mainstream reporting summarized in this project:

  • Weapon: .308 / .30-06 class bolt-action rifle with scope (often described as a Mauser Model 98 variant)
  • Position: Rooftop of the Losee Center, roughly 150 yards from the stage
  • Wound: Throat/neck entry; Kirk collapsed immediately
  • Evidence: Rifle allegedly left at scene; ballistics match cited in probable-cause materials
  • Digital forensics: Alleged searches for "how to snipe" and Kirk's schedule on suspect devices

Full autopsy and complete ballistics reports have not been publicly released. Warrants and forensic packets are reported sealed until March 2026.

Alternative Ballistics and Acoustic Claims

Independent analysts have raised these unverified technical objections:

ClaimProponent / basisStatus
Shot from south at a steeper down-angle than rooftop geometry allowsSocial-media ballistics threads, Shooting LocationsDisputed; no public autopsy
Suppressor/acoustic analysis suggests shooter within ~36 feet, not 150 yardsAudio analyses shared onlineNot independently validated
Tent-based or close-range shot — bang from behind crowd, no visible distant muzzle flash@ProjectConstitu, Tent theoriesConflicts with FBI rooftop video release
Rigged "redundant mic" / shape-charge theory — that a second mic was rigged with a directed PETN-style charge meant for Kirk's chest that struck his neck when he crouched; cites "blood came out sideways" and an SD card allegedly grabbed at the sceneCandace Owens commentary (her stated theory)Owens' own theory; no forensic confirmation, disputes official ballistics
Israeli CornerShot / ARCAS specialty-weapon claimsConspiracy compilationsNo physical evidence publicly shown

Readers should compare these claims against the FBI rooftop video and Gun & Bullet section.

Drone and Aerial Surveillance Claims

Witness-Reported Drones

Some attendee and analyst posts describe multiple drones over or near the courtyard during the event — counts vary (commonly cited figures include 16 in older compilations). Phone-camera captures are referenced in social threads; a definitive inventory has not been released by authorities.

N1098L (U.S. Army HADES Program)

Open-source flight data shows N1098L — a Bombardier Global 6500 operated under the Army HADES contractor arrangement — making two very low passes near UVU on September 10:

  • 9:16 a.m. MDT — descent to ~203 ft AGL at ~113–118 knots
  • 12:48 p.m. MDT — ~335 ft AGL, ~25 minutes after the shooting

Analysts speculate these passes correlate with drone deploy/retrieve operations. The aircraft's mission documentation does not publicly confirm activity over the Kirk event. See Planes/N1098L and Drones.

Egyptian Aircraft at Provo

SU-BTT departed Provo at 7:08 a.m.; SU-BND activated its transponder at 11:59 a.m. Investigators debate whether timing is coincidental maintenance traffic or intelligence-adjacent staging. No government filing has confirmed operational intent.

Surveillance Gaps on the Ground

Reporting on UVU GRAMA records and Fox News photography raises separate questions:

  • Six campus police officers for ~3,000 attendees (per @danksterintel GRAMA review cited in Pre-Shooting Warnings)
  • Rooftop access to the Losee Center reportedly obtainable without detection in post-event photos (Fox News)
  • Questions about which TPUSA, UVU, and FBI-held cameras captured the courtyard and whether footage has been fully released

Laws (Charlie Kirk)

  • The complete autopsy, acoustic lab analysis, and raw drone-detection logs from N1098L/HADES and all unreleased courtyard camera angles are things that the Charlie Kirk Investigation Laws may result in powerful truths coming out that aren't out yet.

Citizen Investigator Claims on X

Ballistics/surveillance X fights: 30-06 / Mauser package vs fragment claims; 5–9° angle tension; drone absence; camera redactions.

  • Grey-van acoustic models and mic-explosion theories compete with rooftop rifle narrative.
  • Surveillance fights include bodycam gaps (private detail; Washington County surrender) and roof CCTV completeness.

Open Questions Raised by Investigators

  1. Independent CBLA / trajectory release?
  2. Full camera index with hash-verified exports?

Commentator coverage: Citizen journalist Ian Carroll has argued in his posts that the ballistics record is unresolved — citing the ATF's inconclusive fragment analysis, questioning whether a .30-06 round would stop in a neck, and calling for filmed terminal-ballistics tests — and says he flew his own drone over the Losee Center roof as part of his footage review.
