What This Video Is​

Twenty-nine seconds - the shortest copy of this detention in the archive. It carries no caption overlay at all: optical character recognition over the frames returned nothing. That absence is its value. Every other variant in this section arrives with an argument written across it. This one arrives with none, so it is the closest thing here to the scene as an onlooker saw it.

There is no account watermark and no source URL, so the uploader is unknown. It is a fragment of a longer capture rather than a complete recording - it opens mid-action, already zoomed in on officers standing with the detained man, and ends abruptly with no resolution to the search.

What Is Said​

One passage of narration from the person filming, which is the opening half of the audio that runs across this whole family of clips:

I think they just found the guy, right outside the [...]. The rifle on this dude's dash, and they just handcuffed him. Shit.

The transcription engine renders one word as "carry on," which does not parse and is almost certainly a mis-hearing.

This short cut is useful precisely because it preserves the narrator's reasoning rather than only his conclusion. He is not describing what he sees; he is inferring. "They just found the guy" is a guess about who has been detained, offered within an hour or two of a shooting a few miles away, by someone who has no way to know. "The rifle on this dude's dash" describes something that appears nowhere in any variant of the footage. Only the third clause - that the man has been handcuffed - is something the camera can actually confirm.

According to the investigation's record, the item associated with this detention was reported to be a .177 pellet break-barrel air rifle. On that reading, the narrator's use of the word "rifle" is an honest error at distance, and it is the seed of everything that was later captioned onto this footage.

What The Footage Shows​

  • 00:00 - 00:10. Zoomed handheld shot: officers on the sidewalk with a handcuffed man. Emergency lights are flashing. One officer pulls on blue nitrile gloves.
  • 00:10 - 00:12. A fast pan blurs the frame to blue and white for about two seconds.
  • 00:12 - 00:25. The view settles. A female officer holds a brown paper bag while a male officer walks the handcuffed man toward the vehicle.
  • 00:25 - 00:29. Zoom in to a medium close-up of the man and the officer securing him at the patrol car. Ends.

In frame: "provo POLICE" on the vehicle, a "YUMMY'S" storefront sign behind, a bicycle, and a brown paper evidence bag. The detained man is middle-aged, in a white t-shirt and dark pants, with a dark cap the automated pass read as lettered "BIG FOOT" - other variants of the same cap read "FOOTBALL" or "BYU FOOTBALL," so the lettering is not reliably resolved in any of these files.

The long gun that the narration is about does not appear in these twenty-nine seconds. The clip is entirely a detention and an evidence bag. Anyone evaluating the "rifle" claim has to go to the longer variants for it.

The detained man is not named on this page and has never been publicly identified.
