Pellet Gun Man Detention - Bystander Clip 6

What This Video Is​

A one-minute-thirty-seven-second handheld phone capture, shot vertically from across a street by an unnamed bystander. It is one of at least nine variants of the same detention circulating in the investigation's archive; the variants differ in crop, length, added caption overlay and watermark, but they all trace back to the same street-corner capture made in the Provo/Orem area of Utah on the afternoon of September 10, 2025.

This particular copy carries almost no legible caption overlay. Optical character recognition over sampled frames returned only fragments, which means this is closer to the raw capture than the heavily captioned variants elsewhere in this section. There is no host account watermarked onto the frame, so the uploader is unknown. Treat it as an anonymous repost of someone else's capture.

What Is Said​

The audio is thin - street noise, distant radio traffic, and a single line from the person holding the phone. Near the point where an officer walks past carrying a long gun, the narrator says:

Do you see his gun? That's his rifle.

That is the whole of the speech. It matters because it is the origin of the framing that follows this footage everywhere it is reposted. A bystander, at distance, watching officers carry a long-barrelled object away from a detention, calls it a rifle. Nothing in the clip establishes what the object actually is, who the detained man is, or what he was detained for. The identification is the narrator's, offered in the moment, and it should be read as that and nothing more.

According to the investigation's own notes, the item associated with this detention was described as a Ruger Yukon Magnum .177 pellet break-barrel air rifle - an air gun, not a firearm. If that description is correct, the narrator's "That's his rifle" is an honest error of the kind any onlooker would make at that range, and it is the error that gave this footage its second life online.

What The Footage Shows​

What is on screen is narrower than what the footage is used to argue. It shows a routine, orderly, daylight detention and property search on a commercial sidewalk. Nothing in frame connects it to Utah Valley University.

  • 00:00 - 00:04. Close, static shot of a handcuffed adult male being helped into the back of a black police SUV. He is compliant, head down.
  • 00:04 - 00:12. Zoom out and pan left, opening onto the wider sidewalk, more officers, and a parked bicycle.
  • 00:12 - 00:40. Medium shot of a kneeling officer, name tag reading DUDLEY, in blue nitrile gloves, opening a green drawstring bag and laying its contents on the pavement.
  • 00:40 - 00:50. Handheld pan following an officer walking toward the group carrying a long gun. This is the moment the narration refers to.
  • 00:50 - 01:17. Wide shot: two marked SUVs in the roadway with emergency lights running while the search continues.
  • 01:17 - 01:22. Quick pan right across a parking lot, where a teenager in a red shirt is filming the same scene on his own phone.
  • 01:22 - 01:30. Pan back left, re-establishing the wide view against the mountain backdrop.

Visible markings: black Dodge Durango cruisers with "provo POLICE" decals; a Utah plate; a white-and-black Cannondale mountain bike leaning nearby; a background street sign reading "Center" (Center Street). The detained man wears a white t-shirt, dark pants and a grey cap reading "BYU FOOTBALL."

Two details are worth holding onto. First, the bicycle - the person at the centre of this detention is described in the investigation's notes as biking around the area rather than fleeing a scene on foot or by car. Second, the teenager filming from the parking lot: there is at least one other capture of this same detention in existence that has never surfaced publicly.

The detained man is not named here and has never been publicly identified. He is not accused of anything on this page.
