Candace Owens Lists What A Rigged Microphone Would Explain

What This Video Is

Four minutes nineteen seconds cut from the Candace show and reposted by the account Project Constitution. It is a produced podcast segment: Owens on the left of a split screen for most of the runtime, with slides, a screenshot from a toxicology reference, video inserts of two other men, event b-roll and photographs occupying the right.

The segment is the clearest single statement of the rigged-microphone thesis in this section, which is why it is filed at the head of that cluster. It is also, structurally, a list. Owens is not presenting new evidence; she is arguing that one hypothesis is a better fit for a set of already-known oddities than the official account is.

What Is Said

Owens states her method in the opening sentence: "when you run this theory that Charlie's microphone was rigged, suddenly every little oddity in this story, every little oddity from September 10th onward begins to make a lot more sense."

She then walks the list, and the on-screen slide is headed "Rigged Mic Might Reasonably Explain." Her items, in her framing throughout:

On the dogs: it would explain "why the bomb dogs were kept away from the scene... because they would have smelled the explosive."

On the ground: it would explain "why the crime scene was immediately paved over and the soil was excavated," and here she does show a source, a National Library of Medicine page on PETN, arguing that "the low water solubility and high soil absorption of PETN in particular... would be very problematic and you would in fact need to dig out the soil."

She supports the excavation point with the strongest documentary element in the segment, a clip of the paving contractor describing what he found: "When I showed up, I took pictures of what it looked like. They had taken out about 10 inches of the dirt around the whole place." Asked whether he thought they were looking for fragments, he answers plainly that he had not been looking at it that way and that it had not crossed his mind. That exchange is worth separating from Owens' inference: the contractor describes an observation, and Owens supplies the interpretation.

The remaining items are asserted without exhibits. She argues the thesis would explain a search for a necklace; debris she describes as shattered dark material in the vehicle that carried Kirk to hospital; the absence of eyewitnesses reporting a shot being fired from the building the shot is officially attributed to; and the reported omission of a gunshot residue test on the accused. On that last one she states her reasoning as motive: "because they knew that he would fail it."

She also asserts that a staff member removed an SD card from a camera at the scene, and that the absence of an ambulance on standby was an anomaly against her own experience touring with the organisation: "I always had an ambulance on standby at my turning point USA events when I toured."

Her closing point is an inference about another person's emotional response, and it should be read as exactly that: an inference, offered by a commentator, about a bereaved woman. This site records that Owens made the remark and does not adopt her reading of it.

The whole segment is one commentator's hypothesis. Owens says so herself in passing: "again, we're thinking while it's still legal to do so." Several of the underlying anomalies she lists are independently documented elsewhere on this site; the causal chain she proposes between them is not. Every person she refers to is entitled to the presumption that they acted properly, and none appears in the segment to answer.
