Jason Cain, Clip 2: A Finger Pointed At A Rooftop

What This Video Is

Eighteen seconds of vertical phone video, the second of two files attached to a post by Jason Cain captioned, in substance, "I believe I have found the #CharlieKirk #Sniper shooting location using..." — the caption is truncated in the archive filename, and the tool he says he used is named in the companion clip, which is a mapping screen recording. The archive holds this one with post identifier 1965910195890171906. It has not been published to IPFS, so a still frame stands in for the player.

The footage itself is not Cain's. It is somebody else's on-the-ground capture, republished inside his locating argument. The identical audio appears on a separate file in this collection filed as roofshooter1, which reached the archive by a different route. Treat the two as one capture counted twice.

What Is Said

Two unidentified male voices off camera, conversational, the whole eighteen seconds:

You think he'd already be in place? You would think that. So there's somebody on the roof right there? Just saying? He just ran from uh, over — my finger. Well, go from over there, ran in, and I was right there. Just saying.

Three separable things are in that. An observation — there is a person on that roof, and here is where. A movement claim — he ran from over there and went in — with the speaker placing himself as a witness to it: "I was right there." And an inference, half-formed, about whether a shooter would already have been in position. The repeated "just saying" is the speaker hedging his own reasoning, and it should be read as the hedge it is.

The speech engine used on the other copy of this audio renders the opening as "You think you'd already be in place?" rather than "he'd." Neither rendering is authoritative to the word, and the difference does not change the substance.

Neither speaker is named in the file, and neither is named here.

What The Footage Shows

  • 00:00 - 00:01 — A shaky wide handheld shot of a concrete building and walkway; two distant figures on the left; the camera zooms in fast.
  • 00:01 - 00:07 — A tight zoom on the building's concrete and brick roofline. A dark figure or object sits on top. Slight pan right.
  • 00:07 - 00:11 — Further pan right, past a building sign and a green tree branch at upper right.
  • 00:11 - 00:13 — A finger enters from the bottom right of frame, pointing at the roof; the camera pans back left.
  • 00:13 - 00:18 — A shaky tight zoom held on the dark object on the roof until the clip ends.

What is on the roof cannot be resolved. At this zoom, on a phone, a crouched person, a piece of rooftop plant and a shadow are not reliably distinguishable, and the clip offers no scale reference. The speakers say it is a person. The picture shows a dark shape. Those are different claims and the page keeps them apart.

One unresolved problem with this file should be on the record. The automated describers that processed both copies of this capture read a building sign in frame as "SPARKS AUTOMOTIVE," and the description attached to the other copy went further and placed the whole clip at a community college in Kansas. Nothing in the investigation record supports that location; the poster's own caption places the footage at the shooting site; and no reconciliation of the two has been done. Until somebody identifies that building from the sign, this clip should not be cited as showing a specific roof. It has been logged as an open data question.
