What This Video Is
Twenty seconds of handheld phone video: a walkway, a zoom onto a building roofline, a figure, and two men talking off camera about what they are looking at. It sits in the investigation archive as roofshooter1.mp4 with no posting account, no upload date and no caption, so it is an anonymous copy of somebody else's original. It has not been published to IPFS, so a still frame stands in for the player.
One thing to know before reading further. The same audio — word for word — appears on a separate clip in this collection, the Jason Cain mapping clip, posted under a caption claiming to have located the shooting position. The two files are the same underlying capture reaching the archive by two routes. Treat them as one piece of evidence counted twice, not as two independent witnesses.
What Is Said
Two unidentified male voices, close to the phone, conversational rather than performative. The full on-device transcription:
Can ride up. Yeah. You think you'd already be in place? You would think that. So there's somebody on the roof right there? Just saying. He just ran from uh, over, where's my finger? from over there, ran in. And I was right there. Just saying, just
The second copy of the same audio renders the opening line as "You think he'd already be in place?" — a small difference between speech engines, and a reminder that neither rendering is authoritative down to the word.
Three things in that exchange are worth separating out.
The first is the observation itself: one speaker states that there is a person on a roof, and points. That is a direct, contemporaneous sighting by someone standing on the ground, and it is the reason the clip exists.
The second is the movement claim: "He just ran from over there, ran in." The speaker is describing motion he says he watched — a figure crossing from one area and going in — and he places himself at the scene: "And I was right there."
The third is the reasoning, and it is the part that is easiest to over-weight. "You think you'd already be in place? You would think that" is two bystanders doing exactly what everyone did that afternoon, out loud: testing whether what they are seeing fits an assassination. It is inference by people with no more information than their own eyes. The repeated "just saying" is the speaker flagging his own uncertainty. Reported as what it is — an on-the-spot eyewitness impression — it is genuinely useful. Read as a conclusion about who was on that roof or why, it is not evidence at all, and the speakers do not claim it is.
Neither man is named in the file, and neither is named here.
What The Footage Shows
The clip opens on a concrete walkway leading toward a campus building, then zooms onto the roofline, where a dark silhouette is crouched near the edge. The camera pans left and right while the speakers talk, and at about fourteen seconds a finger enters frame pointing up at the roof. It pans back to the figure, still crouched, then tilts down to students walking at ground level as the recording ends. Building signage and light poles are visible; several people of student age pass below in casual clothing with backpacks.
A caveat about this page's source material. The automated visual description originally attached to this clip asserts that it was filmed at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas, and reads a sign in frame as "Sparks Automotive." Nothing in the investigation record supports either claim — neither the campus nor the business appears anywhere in the master file — and the identical audio track ties this capture to material published as a Utah Valley University shooting-position analysis. The Kansas identification should be treated as an error by the automated describer, and it has been logged as such. What the frames themselves establish is narrow: a crouched figure on a roofline, filmed from ground level, with bystanders pointing at it.
