What This Video Is​

One minute and forty seconds of campus security camera footage, assembled into a single file that cuts between several fixed feeds. The .ia in the filename indicates an Internet Archive copy; the near-identical companion in this section, roofshooter3, is the same running time and the same material from a different retrieval. Neither carries a posting account or a caption in the investigation archive. Neither has been published to IPFS, so a still frame stands in for the player.

This is not somebody's phone. It is institutional footage — fixed cameras, no operator, no commentary — and that is the reason it matters. It is also the reason it is contested: which cameras, which minutes and which resolution were released, and by whom, is itself one of the open questions in this investigation.

There is no audio track at all. The transcription pass returned "no audio stream — nothing to transcribe," which is what one expects from surveillance video. Nobody speaks; nothing is narrated. Every claim anyone makes about this clip is an interpretation of pixels.

What The Footage Shows​

Bright daylight. A digital timestamp is burned into the top of several of the feeds, reading the date 9/10/2025 with a running clock. A figure in solid dark clothing — dark hooded top, dark trousers, build and face not resolvable at this distance — is followed across a sequence of angles: along a sidewalk beside a parking lot, across a lawn next to a brick academic building, down a grass slope, through rows of parked cars, and finally onto an asphalt campus road. Marked police vehicles with light bars appear during the sequence, and at least one further figure in dark uniform is visible moving in the same direction.

Shot by shot:

  • 00:00 - 00:15 — Wide, high, static view of a parking lot full of cars. The dark-clothed figure runs along the sidewalk at left. A police car with lights on pulls in.
  • 00:16 - 00:31 — A tighter crop on the grass beside the brick building. The figure crosses the lawn toward a large tree; a second figure follows.
  • 00:32 - 00:33 — Brief cut back to the wide lot view as another police vehicle arrives.
  • 00:34 - 00:49 — Back to the cropped lawn angle. The figure runs down the slope into the lower lot.
  • 00:50 - 01:10 — Wide view again; the figure moves between rows of parked cars.
  • 01:11 - 01:30 — A new camera overlooking a different part of campus. The figure comes down a grass slope onto the road; the frame pans right to follow.
  • 01:31 - 01:39 — Wide view of the campus roadway. A police vehicle sits across the road and officers on foot work the area while civilian traffic edges past.

Two cautions, because this is the kind of footage people over-read.

First, "pursuit" is an inference, not an observation. The automated visual description filed with this clip asserts that the figure is "being pursued by campus police officers" and describes a coordinated containment. What the frames themselves establish is that a person in dark clothing moved quickly across these areas and that marked police vehicles and uniformed figures were present in the same minutes. Whether any given uniformed figure is chasing this specific person, arriving for an unrelated reason, or securing a perimeter is not something a fixed camera at this distance settles.

Second, the person in dark clothing is not identified by this footage and is not identified here. The figure's identity, and whether the movement shown is the movement described in the charging documents, is exactly what is disputed elsewhere on this site.

How It Connects​

The timestamps are what make this footage load-bearing. Investigation notes record that the shot is placed at 12:23:30 p.m., and that surveillance stills circulated by researchers carry timestamps of 12:23:29, 12:23:34, 12:23:45 and 12:23:54 tracing movement toward the northeast corner of the Losee Center. Researchers including those cited in the investigation file have argued that the released rooftop video was cut to begin at 12:23:34, by which point the runner was already well clear of the claimed firing position, and that the missing seconds before that would show the run beginning at roughly 12:23:28 — two seconds before the shot. If that reconstruction holds, it bears directly on whether the person on the roof could have fired. It is a reconstruction advanced by independent researchers, and it depends on footage that has not been released in full.
