Nick — UVU Witness

A young man identified only as Nick is one of the on-the-ground witnesses to the September 10, 2025 shooting at Utah Valley University. He spoke on camera in a street interview that was posted to X by @MuppetMasher on 2026-05-11. The post says Nick's full name was given in the interview but the account chose to focus on the substance of his account rather than his identity.

What @MuppetMasher said about the clip

According to @MuppetMasher on X, 2026-05-11:

This kid is named Nick (his full name is in the interview if you want it). I'm more interested in his story than his identity. It's hard to find any witness that says it sounded like a large calibre rifle. Lots of pops, fireworks, smaller calibre or pistol sounds but none saying it was 30-06. His description of trajectory is interesting.

The framing matters: the account is curating witness testimony around two evidentiary questions that recur across the investigation — what the gunfire actually sounded like (consistent with a 30-06 Mauser 98 or with something else) and what trajectory the shot reportedly took.

Nick's account — what he heard

In the interview, Nick is asked what he saw. According to his on-camera statement:

So I was just watching him speak and he was talking about gang violence and then I'd just hear like a loud pop.

His description — "a loud pop" — fits the pattern @MuppetMasher highlights: witnesses describing the sound as a single sharp report rather than the heavier crack typically associated with a high-powered rifle round. For ballistic context, see the Gun & Bullet section, which catalogs the calibre and rifle that the official narrative attributes to the shooter.

Crowd reaction — "they cheered when he got shot"

Nick reportedly describes the moment of the shot and the immediate aftermath:

I'm looking at him and it doesn't even look real, like — when I was on the floor, there were some group of people at the top, they cheered when he got shot. And I was just appalled.

According to Nick's statement, a group of people positioned at the top of the venue reportedly cheered at the moment Charlie Kirk was hit. This is a specific, falsifiable claim about crowd reaction at a specific location within the venue. Confirming or refuting it would require event-camera footage from that section of UVU; see Cameras / Surveillance for the broader question of which camera angles have and have not been released.

Trajectory — "the shot came from my left, so his right"

Asked whether he had a direction the shot came from and whether he believed there was a single shooter, Nick reportedly answers:

Yeah, so I was facing towards him and it looked like the shot came from my left — so his right — and it just went through his neck and out the other side. It was gruesome.

This is the trajectory detail that @MuppetMasher flags as "interesting." Nick is facing Kirk; the shot, by his account, comes from Nick's left, which is Kirk's right, and exits the other side of Kirk's neck. Cross-reference this with the trajectory analyses on the Shooting Locations and Proof Not Tyler pages, where the geometry of the official scenario is examined against witness reports.

Why this account matters

Nick's interview is reportedly one of several witness accounts in which the sound is described as a pop or smaller-calibre report rather than as a heavy rifle shot. The Gun & Bullet page describes the calibre and rifle that the official narrative attributes to the shooting; readers can compare that to the sound profile witnesses report and decide for themselves whether the two are consistent. Compounded with the cheering-group detail and the right-side entry trajectory, Nick's account adds another data point to the ongoing question of whether the Shooting Locations and Proof Not Tyler analyses correctly reflect what happened on the ground.

What you saw?

So I was just watching him speak and he was talking about gang violence and then I'd just hear like a loud pop. And I'm looking at him and it doesn't even look real. Like, when I was on the floor, there were some group of people at the top — they cheered when he got shot. And I was just appalled.

I agree. Now when you saw what you saw, did you have a certain direction that you heard the shot come from, or did you think it was just one shooter?

Yeah, so I was facing towards him and it looked like the shot came from my left, so his right, and it just went through his neck and out the other side. It was gruesome.
